V-Lux (114) no wireless flash - new user Hello

Hello, I'm a new user here having just bought a new V-Lux type 114.

I also have an M6 plus Voightlander lenses.

I write really because of my disappointment to discover yesterday

that my new camera does not allow wireless flash. I bought a Metz 44 AF-2

with the camera and I am happy with the early test shots on the camera,

but I had not known that wireless flash does not exist on the Leica

version of the Panasonic FZ1000. I went into a shop yesterday and checked

the menu on the FZ1000 and it does include wireless flash.

This is a shame! My Leica firmware is ver 1.0 and I understand there is no

update yet. I can only hope that some day in the future it will be

updated to unclude wireless flash.

Otherwise, I am very happy with the camera. I previously used Sigma DP1 and DP2

( I have kept them, lovely cameras, but slow) and always used RAW mode, but

so far with the V-Lux I am finding the JPG files are very nice. I have not

tried RAW mode yet. I am still learning the camera.

Hello Dominic

Welcome to the forum, if we can help here then we will offer ideas and suggestions.

Yes the Panasonic FZ1000 does have wireless flash availability which the V-Lux 114 does not.  I don't think that the V-Lux 114 has the ability for 4K video photo capture either.   The original Panasonic firmware for the FZ1000 also did not have this feature but the latest firmware has added it.  As I don't have the V-lux version I am unable to verify this but possibly a firmware update would do this? The firmware on my FZ1000 is version 2.2.

Hello Dominic!

Chris here, greetings from Los Angeles!

As a fairly long time user of a couple of 114's, I found the cheapest solution to the problem is a pair of YoungNuo RF603ii radio triggers.

They're multifunction (TX/RX/relay) and very inexpensive on the auction sites. I have three pairs (they're less than US$40 a pair, delivered to California) and have found them very reliable thus far, and I shoot well over 1200 exposures on a full shooting day. Mostly I use the two pairs for my three strobe packs (one set on TX, three on RX) and the third pair as backup, but so far haven't taken the third pair out of its box yet...

Perhaps the latest version firmware might well include the wireless flash, but as an early adopter I didn't wait and went the YN RF603ii route. I also use it for two flash packs and two camera bodies, which is also convenient. As a pro, I also have long physical flash sync cables in case something fails, and also IR and classical flash slave triggers. Since I went the YN route I haven't needed to use any of these backup methods.

Hope this helps!

I don't know what trigger I used but at Adorama yesterday they had some models for a flash shoot and all I had to do set the camera to manual, apply the settings for the flash, put the trigger on the hot shot, and it worked:

apply the settings for the flash - would you like to elucidate exactly what settings you changed - to someone 4 days into VLUX 114 ownership?

I ask because although I have got an SF-40 flash now to work in manual mode. I have failed so far to get my EL-Skyport Speed by Elinchrom to trigger my lights.
