the warrior Posted June 17, 2016 Share #1 Posted June 17, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) To day in Puerta del Sol-Madrid. When I saw this I was reminded of the critical forum friends and I took the picture for them with love, I hope you like it and understand it well. This man shouting things I did not understand, pafrecía be something crazy, he must think that scream a lot has more reason, I do not think so, I think everyone has their reason, and I think trying to bring others to their land is bad, there are many ways of saying things, but never going to be trying to convince others that you're wrong and I do not, especially in photography because each difetente way we look and so we are not wrong. Some people do not understand this, these people are always going to have a serious problem of communication with the rest of the world. It's what I think.A cordial greeting to all. Advertisement Posted June 17, 2016 Posted June 17, 2016 Hi the warrior, Take a look here A large picture with a good "message" included for my critical friends forum, with love.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
roelandinho Posted June 17, 2016 Share #2 Posted June 17, 2016 To me it sounds like you're trying to convince yourself more than "your critical forum friends" are trying to convince you. Anyway this is a bad image in several ways. I would not even call this a photograph. Just my opinion though, I'm not trying to convince you of anything ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
the warrior Posted June 17, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted June 17, 2016 Sorry, I will not go running to supost of a photograph of a miller, you should not wait there, I am not worthy to see your picture, only God is.Some people say that you have shown a photograph that deserves to be exposed at MOMA, the photos are better than those of HCB, I think they're going to call MAGNUM soon for you to expose your great work there, I think from MAGNUM are doing to you a place of honor, I'm sure you do not deserve to show their magnificent works before our eyes, we are unable to appreciate its immense beauty, I think you're the god of light and color, I think you is full of wisdom and greatness, I think you should charge money for being filled with his presence this little forum.I'm just a lowly apprentice, you are the grand master, I admit.
otto.f Posted June 17, 2016 Share #4 Posted June 17, 2016 (edited) Very well done. For me it's a StarWars association, from the Creatures Department. Maybe I wouldn'nt have liked it if I had heard the guy in reality Edited June 17, 2016 by otto.f

gbealnz Posted June 17, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 17, 2016 I agree, some/most of his photos leave me in awe, truly, I could not do them. But he does and with great ghusto. So bravo. I think where it tends to go pear-shaped is with the language translation, I suspect English is not the native tongue and the "translator gives a different rendition". Either way, keep them coming Jhon, those that don't like, don't need to view. Gary

Steve Ricoh Posted June 17, 2016 Share #11 Posted June 17, 2016 I can't understand the criticism, this it one truly great 'street' shot, ok no beach but plenty of expression. In a word or two, I love it. Now all I need to do is get the A320 pilot to fly me out to learn the juice from you Jhon!!

I think the criticism stems from the fact that this image is very one-dimensional in nature and does not contain anything of interest photographically. It only captures the weirdness of the person depicted. It's just another headshot. No crafted composition, no other elements to form a story. If you come across a person or object that looks interesting and you grab this with your camera without any thought, you will have probably only captured the "interestingness" of the person or object. That is still not a photograph in the sense that the photographer didn't really add any value. A lot of people seem to think "street" is an excuse for sloppiness and (mostly wide angle) headshots. roelandinho Posted June 20, 2016 Share #18 Posted June 20, 2016 You clearly don't like Bruce Gilden then. Oh well, each to their own. You're right, his style in general is not my cup of tea; aggressive and brutal I call it. I like a more quiet and gentle approach to photography. I also don't like or approve of making your subjects uncomfortable, which is inevitable with his style. However you have accused thewarrior of making his subjects uncomfortable and disapprove of that. I have to say I don't see real evidence of discomfort as a result of his making photos. I should also add that I often do see that discomfort in many images by many posters here. Discomfort is an emotion. Many are displayed in our pics, mine included. I go so far as to say images without emotion go close to being a waste of time and effort. You are free to avoid reading thewarriors posts which may be more suitable to your comfort zone. I and many other readers here enjoy and even envy his tyle. I will go so far as to say his work is very legitimate and revealing. Discomfort in the viewer, IMO is a success by the photographer, simply because he/she has aroused a response.

Actually, I was talking about Bruce Gilden and more specifically his flashlight headshots of people. A lot of times, they have an angry, startled or annoyed look on their face. I agree that discomfort is an emotion. I also agree that emotions make photographs more interesting. However, I do not like the photographer being the source of the emotion (in this case discomfort).
