MP3 vs M3J

Two camera virtually identical except the MP3 has the M2 counter, three frame viewfinder (35, 50, 90). MP3 comes with Leicavit and 50 Summilux Black Paint. 500 made in BP for the MP3. The M3J came out the same year. All black paint. Lugs, hot shoe, release button, even a black frame counter. Six frame viewfinder. 200 made only for Japan. If you could have one and have it to use which one? I'm leaning towards the M3J because of its rarity, awesome Japanese heritage, and a little more useful with 6 frames and internal counter. The Leicavit can be bought after and to be honest glass wise its just a prettied up 50 summilux - I like the 50 apo. The pickle is the M3J isn't really that much cheaper than the MP3 set. Champagne for everyone!!

Ha. I do own the MP3 and I found a great deal on the M3J. Speaking with a dealer of these more unique cameras (who uses them and doesn't collect) he turned my attention to the M3J as the "Holy Grail". It's sparked my curiosity and having little experience I reach out to fellow enthusiasts for your input. For the record, the M7 titanium set is kinda bullcrap. The 50 and the 90 can be had along with the camera for a modest amount, if you hunt even a deal. Add the 28 and all of a sudden it's priced at $200k. Lame. But the M3J- it's rarity and black paint beauty definitely speaks to me.

The M3J does look nice but then so does the MP3 and many other editions of the MP. I'm a sucker for a nice looking camera (especially black paint) but there comes a point when using the camera takes precedence and, frankly, they all work as well as each other. I think BerndReini's comment in another thread (something along the lines that the ownership of something highly sought after is generally less satisfying than the pursuit of it) is quite apt and good advice in many of these threads.

I'm talking about the small set only with the M7 and 50lux in Titanium. My worry is that you will really feel guilty using the M3J. You are all set with your MP3, the rest is just boredom. Buy a Porsche or another watch (something tells me you own a few.) ;)

Any indication on what you consider a great deal for the M3J (mint)?
