B-stand Posted May 30, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 30, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is there any way to get the Q to transfer files automatically via the usb socket to a mac? NOT have to import but as a stream. So I can put a hot folder in Capture one. As in any way of tethered shooting with the Q? The ios app is good but to slow and as you know I can´t get auto refresh in full picture mode. Or even get the Q to via Wi-Fi transfer to my Mac Laptop instead of my iPad. I really love the camera and shoot all my editorials on it but when shooting commercial stuff the agency and client is so used to seeing the images straight away on the computer. Any way of achieving this?
Advertisement Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Hi B-stand, Take a look here Tethered shooting or auto transfer to laptop?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Herve5 Posted May 31, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) If the customer is used to see the shots straight away, show them straight away on a tablet ;-) No USB tether, with all the relevant softwares I tried. And you can check, from the mac, that when you connect the Q it just declares itself on the USB bus as an external hard drive... I didn't find any mac app that'd clone the Leica Q one on Android or iphones. The only thing I could imagine is running the andro app within an OSX android emulator, but this looks quite complex to set (mainly because of the complexity to prepare the android emulator). Now I verified one can use the Leica Q android app without Google apps, which may help. An alternative would be to buy a serious Eye-Fi card, turn the Q internal wifi off, and download via the Eye-Fi, which does allow transfering raw files (but won't drive the Q) Still, remember that with 40-Mb raw images, the wifi downloads will be very slow... I suspect that's the reason Leica didn't support this... Edited May 31, 2016 by Herve5
marcg Posted May 31, 2016 Share #3 Posted May 31, 2016 I imagine that some automated display system could be set up using Folder Agent http://www.folderagent.com/ if the Q is tethered as a another disk drive. Maybe someone could let us know if they want to try this and find that it works.Folder Agent looks like a very capable little program. It used to cost money but is now free. When the Q is connected through USB you cannot shoot with it, you can only transfer files to computer.
rriley Posted July 2, 2016 Share #5 Posted July 2, 2016 Here's a way to get pretty close to "auto transfer", it only takes one mouse click. I use Chronosync to handle backups on my Mac. I set up Chronosync to copy the contents of my Leica card to a designated folder for Capture 1. 1. Set up a Chronosync "Synchronizer Document" (specifies the parameters and folder names). 2. Create a desktop alias to the Chronosync document. Now all I do is plug in the USB cable and click on the desktop alias, Chronosync handles everything else.
