Dear Leica a new lens request

If you were able to request a new Leica lens, what wood it be ?

Having slimmed down my set and being into wide, disliking slow lenses, my request would be a 15 or 16mm F2.8, ideally as small as possible perhaps just a shade bigger than the 21mm Elmarit. Given there are a significant number of new and old lenses available what would you request be ?

PS Leica can I have a clip on hood not a built in please.

I'd like it if we could rewind 30 to 50 years and put a normal filter on the 35/1.4 pre asph. While we're at it, bring the close focus to 0.7m. That would make me very happy.

As far as new lenses, while we're In the past can Mandler design a 75 summicron along the lines of the 75 summilux? I love the was the 75 summilux looks, but a smaller summicron with similar character would be excellent. I think Leica would say that the 75 summarit is the lens I'm after.

I would like a flare-free "thin" Tele-Elmarit 90/2.8 the same size as the original version. So no monster lens ;) a-la Summarit 90/2.4 please and no rubber focus ring either if you don't mind.

I agree.

A f/2 or f/2.8 15mm or 16mm around 250g and compact would be a nice addition. as for now there is no fast UWA's in Leica's lineup.

The CV 15mm Heliar v3 is stellar though, i just wished it was f/2.8 rather than f/4.5.

What would Leica do differently ?

Smaller, rangefinder coupled, lighter and I find Zeith quite different in rendering to Leica. I considered this as an option but just too big n heavy

Dear Leica,

1. Please let me sit in on a few of your product planning meetings.

2. Maybe a heritage mega-bundle: M-A, and 2.8:28, 2:50 and "thin" 2.8:90 lenses. At a close-to-sane price. (You sell three film cameras for Pete's sake. In 2016. What do you know that I don't?)

3. Bring back the ABLON.

Leica's M lens line up is pretty impressive. Apart from modifications (smaller, lighter, less flare) I'm not so sure that there is any lens that I really feel is missing. As said already a super-wide prime might be useful and will no doubt be added at some point. Other than that I can't really see that there is much not catered for by Leica for the M series. We've probably never had such choice new and add in used and there is a really impressive array of lenses available given the rangefinder's limitations.

How about a renaissance of the Tri-Elmar (MATE)?

Instead of overly-complex Tri-Elmars, how about sets of Bi-Elmars? 28-50, 35-75, 21-35, 50-90? I imagine easier to design and more compact as a result.

Traveling with 21-35 & 50-90, would be sweet.

This reminds me of the 'recommended outfits' that used to be on the back pages of the M4-P and M6 brochures in the '90s.

I use my M-A  a lot with 28/2.8 , 50/2.8 and 90/4 : this makes a great travel bundle.

But the 50 Elmar-M and 90/4 macro were bought used.

The 50 Elmar-M is discontinued and the 90/4 macro is shockingly overpriced new ( for such a simple lens, production cost would be the same as the 50 Elmar-M - i.e. should be one of the lowest cost lenses )
