Images Missing From Disk

I just discovered that out of three SanDisk Extreme 90 MB/s, 32GB disks recently used for a vacation trip, I have a number of images that I took that were not recorded on one of the disks.  Not only were some not recorded at all, in other instances I have the JPEG file but not the RAW, or vice versa.  My Q since I first got it a month ago has always been set to record both JPEG & RAW.  And based on my recollection of the pictures taken with this particular disk in the camera, there are quite a large number of images that were not recorded.  If I had to guess, I would say that the 51 images recorded on the disk are less than 50% of the images taken using this disc.  The other two discs have all of the photos that I remember taking on this trip.

I first realized this when I downloaded the images into Lightroom 6; but I also have Aperture 3.4 & Photoshop CS5 installed on my iMac, so I checked the disc out on these two applications as well.  I get the same result when doing this.  And in using the camera since this trip with other similar disks, I have not had any problem with image files not being recorded.  So I have to assume this is an instance of a bad disk, but would welcome any other thoughts or suggestions regarding this problem.  This is the first time that anything like this has happened in all of the time I have been using any digital cameras, so it was not only most disappointing (many were photos of our only grand daughter who lives some distance from where we do) but very surprising as well.  I suppose that says something about the quality of digital products today.

Sad to hear about the loss of some images, sadly things go wrong with electronics, films and wind up motors also broke at times.. The quality of today's electronics are in my opinion mostly very reliable.. Have you tried putting the card through a Recovery application?

I do agree with what you say about our technology today compared to the film era - probably why it really caught me off guard. I have not but will look into some kind of recovery application, but this assumes of course that the images were recorded on the disk. If the disk failed, . . . .

I have noticed that sometimes the odd image takes longer to show up in Photo after transfer, have tried transferring the images again?

Usually I transfer from SD to a file on my desktop, then I import to Photo..

Lastly I leave the originals on the SD, then Format just prior to my next Shoot...

Sandisk is the brand with the largest number of fake, unreliable cards inserted into the market. Did you buy from a reliable source? In that case claim guaranty on the card.

All of my cards came from a Costco store, part of a very large retail chain in the US.  They are a major brick & mortar seller of all major camera brands, particularly Nikon & Canon.  They also have very good customer service so I suspect they would replace the card without any question.  Sandisk also claims a lifetime warranty on this card & their website lists a technical support contact (866-726-3475 in the US if anyone else is interested).  I'll see what they have to say after our holiday tomorrow.
