I like to photograph people with evil face.

This man walked toward me, his face a few friends, and waited to make the photo to 1.5 meters with 21mm f4 SA and M3.

These photographs are challenges, but I know they never say anything, and if they say I put stupid face and just hahaha

No, seriously, there are never problems with people, you just have to smile after the photo and that's it.

It is better to say nothing about this photograph or is it better to teach people that they should not be afraid to go out and put your camera to a metro people face ???.

Pleasure to see you posting again Jhon and reading about image creation.

In contrast to your method, if you research Thomas Leuthard you will see various things said about his approach. On the one hand he says he never makes eye contact or exchanges words with his 'Guinea Pigs', he considers it does nothing for the image once it's on the SD card and therefore a waste of time. However, more recently (viz the petapixel ninja street tips I linked previously) it shows him chimping and sharing the image with his subject, providing contact details (eg a business card) and offering to email a copy. To his credit he never takes pictures of people that poke fun or belittles them, in general they're images most would be please with, so if forced to show the LCD it should not result in a nasty situation.

I still have some a little problem with the translation in both directions.

Sorry, I try not teach anyone, especially the great masters of the forum, one I share my experiences with those who want to hear, nothing else, I'm just anyone, I'm just a tiny character in vast universe photography but I try to do difertentes things, I do not want to do the same as most photographers, I do not know if this is bad, maybe if it is.

I only teach in my workshops street in Madrid, workshops always free, I teach not to be afraid on the street and people, and taught to have respect, but I only teach those who want to learn how little I know.

- - -

Yes, sometimes I offer my flickr address those who portrait, we all do.

Many things are said but these things do not always do, all street photographers do not always do what we say, no we are machines.

Each situation is different and each fotografís is different, I have general rules, but I can not always follow my own script.

I made a search of the images taken by the photographer mentioned and I see many similarities with my pictures, that only matters in the end, words are not pictures and images are not words, but you have in mind that the image can be taught to lie.

I can say that I also use people as "guinea pigs", seeking reactions from them, I do not like to smile, I want harsh reactions.

I do not know if I can explain to the translator.

Film, M3 - SA 21mm F4 to 40 centímeters.

Oh, You are actually teaching us?

Give the guy a break!

He is posting some photos which many people enjoy seeing.  He is doing his best to communicate in a language in which he is not fluent, I think often using google translator or a dictionary.  Sometimes he hits on the right term (I thought the use of "visual acuity" in another post was pretty damm good), at others the translator clearly fails to interpret correctly his intended meaning. Most people would not dare to post such detailed descrptions/ thoughts in a language they do not dominate.  I speak reasonable German and I read the German part of the forum, but I would not post there because I would feel I could make a fool of myself.

Many of the phrases in Jhon's posts such as "his face a few friends" (cara de pocos amigos -unfriendly face) are just obvious mistranslations, but can generally be understood if you have the right disposition.

When he saus "teach" he probably used the verb enseñar which in this case would be better translated as "let people see" or "show people".

In any case I for one am open to other people teaching me, specially if it is for free, and that is why I visit this forum, to learn. How would I learn if no one taught me?

Anyway, excuse the rant, and Jhon, please continue to share your thoughts, they are always interesting to me.

I don't find most portrait-style photos of people in the street to be that interesting. They're like driver's license photographs. In my opinion, an interesting street photo should have some action, or some tension, or some interaction between people and their surrounds. They should make the viewer wonder what's going on, or think about life.

The first one here doesn't have much interest for me. It's just a man walking down the street. What is notable about this shot? Sorry, but it's boring.

The last one is completely different. A man is lying down on the street. I'm curious about what happened here? Who is the woman who is attending him? Why are the girls on the left ignoring the situation?

Just my opinions.

I have to agree. Each to their own and all that but grab shots of random people don't do it for me either. The worst of the lot are those awful 'shock' portraits by the American guy (can't recall the name right now). Just why?!

But as I said, each to their own.

Some of these pictures are stunning, the look of the girl of the picture above the last one is a marvel.

Not to mention the fact how to focus hand while walking towards people walking to you.

Great shots !!!!!

Wasn't aware Jhon was walking too, that's some skill it has to be agreed, definitely a skill I could not replicate!!

I appreciate this sort of street photography is not to everybody's taste, but I like them.

Are you thinking of Bruce Gilden? https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2015/aug/19/bruce-gilden-face-street-portraits-photographs-book   Those are not the typical street photography shots he does. He gets their permission and takes much more formal, posed portraits.

Bruce Gilden does something like my job, or I to yours, but I use 90mm and walked without stopping while shooting, or 50mm, or 21mm.

I understand that everyone has their preferences.

I think you may not know the work of B. Gilden, look here:

I think it depends on ones definition of "Street Photography".   For some, the  focus is to capture people's individual expression and behavior in the "Street" .  For others it's to capture a bit more of what surrounds you as the photographer, presenting what the street offered you when you shot the frame.   I personally focus on the latter, I'm just not a fan of owning portraits of people who I don't know or have no emotional attachment too.  I understand the art and its purpose, and certainly respect those who care to perfect this craft...it's just not my bag.

I like to look for something that I think simply looks cool, and different but specific to where I am.  I'll look to add in supportive targets -- people, birds, something native to the locale -- to make the shot one of a kind.   These supportive targets are like pawns in chess as opposed to the King; they are kind of there, but don't really stand out.  They may be a silhouette, blurred, back facing..etc.   There is typically something larger or significantly different driving the scene in proportion to the people in it.  People may be the table setter; but the larger table is the focus here.

I guess I prefer more of the Erwitt style as opposed to Gilden.

With that said, nice use of the 21m Jhon.  Getting up close with a wide like you have creates a nice immersive feel for the viewer....well at least for me.

Well, I said earlier that attempt to further my progression in photography.

I just received my new 21mm f4 SA acquired Leicashop Vienna to Mr Peter, and tomorrow go to the street.

I have long been making portraits and people closely with the 50mm and 75, or 90mm, now it change and make people with 21mm.

I like the idea of being able to shoot 40 feet and still collect much of other people or street.

I hope to live up to my own expectations.
