Rus Posted May 22, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 22, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK this may well be very old info. ..but slow as I am and having been a DNG shooter (sometimes DNG+jpg) for a long time I only just realised that jpg-only mode can be quite a bit better for focus checking on the M9. Usually, if you want to check focus with the M9's LCD, the image gets very blurry when it is fully loaded if you shoot DNG or DNG+Jpg. But if you shoot jpg only for the M9 when checking the focus, and zoom in with the dial only 3 times (it allows you to zoom in 4 times in total), after the initial few seconds with the heavily pixelated image and what look like a bit of moire pattern, you will see a fairly clear image of the zoomed-in part that is not too far from what a 100% crop look like. This is of course not to say that we should all just shoot jpg only~~that'd be silly....XD But it does come handy if you want to check whether or not the lens is properly coupled with the rangefinder. Gregm61 Posted May 23, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 23, 2016 I shoot DNG-only and the image in review, which opens up initially as blurry, sharpens after a couple of seconds when fully loaded. The review image always applies all jpeg parameters even if you only shoot DNG. You can confirm by setting the monochrome color option. You'll see a black & white image, even though the only file that downloads to the computer is the color version.

In the M9 when I change it to DNG-only, the jpg parameters (i.e. sharpening, color saturation, and contrast) are all greyed out and won't let me select any of them.
