How many megapixels in the next M?

HI guys, I´m really intrigued by the number of pixels coming with the next M. The question is not about how many megapixels do you want. Is more about what do you think Leica will do.

There seems to be a senseless ambition by manufacturers to increase the number of MP because that's what sells cameras. But increasing the number decreases the size of photon buckets, for a given chip size (assuming FF 35mm). I suspect the people at Leica will resist the senseless increase in MP and go for greater DR and higher / lower ISO capability (resisting the use of the word 'hope').

I would guess - from Leica's past behavior - that the next M will simply switch to the SL sensor.

Still 24 Mpixels - but perhaps "better" pixels in terms of DR and noise and ISO and such. (Haven't seen much SL output to judge).

But it somewhat depends on when Leica introduces the next significant M upgrade - if not this year, the whole 24x36 line (M, Q, SL) may get upgraded together to one totally new sensor.

I think the sensor will be more biased towards M lenses.

Can say  I'm good with what I have, 24M is fine. I could use more dynamic range.

Does this mean that the current  lens line up is made for the current sensor's range?

No, it means that the sensors of all digital M cameras have been designed to perform optimally with all M lenses, including the vintage ones, as much as possible. I don't see Leica deviating from the principle of retro-compatability.

Thanks

First time in my life I'm completely happy with the camera I have.

....Life is good.... I like my car too  :)

While unlikely, it's also entirely possible that we could wake up to a 50mp M

i don't think it will happen, but it points out the range between possible and likely.  There are off the shelf 50mp full frame sensors right now, but Canon and Nikon continue to produce lower mp cameras because specific markets aren't buying based on mp.

Wouldn't matter to me one way or another. I'm happy with 24Mpixel, and with the current M/M-P typ 240 sensor.

I could be even happier with the M-D typ 262 body, given that I have the SL for all the more versatile things that cameras can do. I see my M as a very specific-use kind of tool.

Personally I am a little distressed by many people in recent threads referring to Leica M as "vintage" "now older technology" etc.

In some ways this is good because it will be probably be good for Leica sales, but in other ways it saddens me because it appears to denote a lack of appreciation for a wonderful camera.
