I hope it will give you a service comparable to the one of a (vintage) Leica. As for the Roman numerals, I had never seen "4" being written "III"...that is definitely not "Roman", the only way to correctly write it being "IV".
CoopH Posted May 18, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted May 18, 2016 (edited) Dear Pecole, Well someone read this. Suppose the mention on Roman numerals turned others away, As for `IV'____ I could not agree more with you. When asking who/why it was changed, all the Watch companies stated: " Well it is far more symmetrical using `IIII' then the old `IV'. I dubbed them___V.I.____and rode away. So they changed what culture had put there thousands of years ago, but by from now on, they will have to carry the title_____V.I. " Village Idiots", and that is that, this world has evolved so much, mostly downwards. Edited May 18, 2016 by Wfzd

euston Posted May 19, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 19, 2016 IIII is traditional on clocks and watches. Nobody really knows why. The Romans actually used both IV and IIII to signify 4. I favour the explanation that IIII just looks better in this context. The Marine Original is a nice looking watch and Stowa is a great make - good design, well made, excellent customer service and exceptional value for money. Like Leica cameras, these watches can be addictive. You’ll be lucky to get away with just one. Here’s one of mine snapped with an M9 a few years ago: Welcome, dear visitor! CoopH Posted May 20, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted May 20, 2016 Using Leica camera____photographing Swiss watches with German designers, this case F.A. Porsche who of course gave the world in 1963__the 911 auto___Herr Porsche went on to design watches and delightful things for we gadget types love. This watch is a rare ( sources say only 20 were made) Titanium__no, not aesthetically pleasing to most eyes, but homage to his (IMO) creative abilities. Watch experts, (not Moi'), will tell of the magnetic effect on `auto' watches, Herr Porsche tricked them with the design of this watch, the compass is fully accurate to the point. This watch is certainly not for flash, but useful when hiking, camping, or lost in you're favorite restaurant, this compass will give you no excuse to not get home for evening dinner, or whatever the affair,___ (pardon, no such thing intended.) On a sad note, "Butzi" to his family___passed in April, 2012, just short of the 50th Anniversary of the 911 auto he designed. Welcome, dear visitor! mikemgb Posted July 2, 2016 Share #8 Posted July 2, 2016 I have never heard of a Stowa watch but I especially love the first one, I may have to do some research into these, unfortunately I'm not so keen on the Porsche watches, they are too bulky for my tastes but I can appreciate them for their quality. I collect old watches in the same way as I collect old cameras, with the intent to use them, fortunately my wife enables me, she bought me two of my last three camera acquisitions and she bought me the watch on the right in the photo. I love the classic stainless look of these, on the left a 1961 automatic Rado, on the right a 1967 Rolex that I have to wind every morning, these, plus a solar powered Casio are the watches I wear most often, and yes, they both tick if you listen closely.
