ho_co Posted May 15, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Neither Final Cut Pro X nor iMovie can read files written by my dSLR. Has anyone a recommendation for a converter for .MOV files to a format these Mac programs can use? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted May 15, 2016 Posted May 15, 2016 Hi ho_co, Take a look here need suggestion for .MOV converter (Mac) to Final Cut Pro. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Exodies Posted May 15, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 15, 2016 I don't know about your particular application, but handbrake is very versatile on Mac.
ho_co Posted May 15, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted May 15, 2016 Thanks, Exodies. Downloaded and tried HandBrake, but it didn't work. :-( I have a MOV file created by a dSLR and am trying to load it into Final Cut Pro X in order to trim it a bit. But FCP says it can't handle either MP4 or MKP files as delivered by HandBrake. Obviously I may have failed to set something right in HandBrake, so I'll keep trying. Thanks very much for the suggestion!
ho_co Posted May 16, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted May 16, 2016 (edited) Oops! My bad. Please forget the question. I didn't have a problem to start with. The difficulty was that I'm just learning Final Cut Pro. The application handles the file just fine when you know what you're doing. Thanks to everyone for your interest; sorry to waste your time and effort. Edited May 16, 2016 by ho_co
zeitz Posted May 17, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 17, 2016 I had no problem opening a .mov file from my new Nikon D5 in iMovie. I didn't need a converter. I am looking for a movie editor though. I've never been pleased with iMovie. I may have to update my M9 to an M Type whatever if I get into this movie stuff. We don't see much in the Digital Processing subforum on editing video from Leica cameras.
Wlee2060 Posted June 12, 2019 Share #6 Posted June 12, 2019 As for me, my option is Joyoshare Media Cutter for Mac, an all-in-one video solution and works as video cutter, editor, converter, player on Mac. It's easy to use and supports a ton of media file formats including MOV, MP4, AVI, MPG, MPEG, 3GP, 3G2, WMV, ASF, RM, RMVB; MP3, FLAC, AIFF, AU, MKA, APE, OGG, WAV, WMA, AAC, AC3, M4A, M4R, etc.
