Stein K S Posted May 14, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 14, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi This issue has possibly/probably been discussed here before, but this is my first "contribution" on the "M camera body page" ( I have been active only on the lens pages so far)... so I put my question forward anyway... ;-) So I ask if I am the only one that experience that the navigation wheel on the M9 is "restless"... i.e. it can "jump" by itself in uneven "order" espesially when zooming in and out when looking at pictures. Not really important, but one get to think that something afterall is wrong or about to brake... or needs adjustment... Thank you for all feedback! geotrupede Posted May 14, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 14, 2016 (edited) Had the same issue on the M8 (jumping and in some cases reverse) and at some point the wheel ceased to work. It can be fixed but got used without as camera is out of warranty and it would cost a bit. For the M9 similar issue, the wheel became very light, especially after the third camera repair (yes, 3rd, sensor line, lens code reader and sensor corrosion, not bad!). I think it can be easily fixed by opening and closing the camera. I say so because after the second repair the wheel was very hard to operate, then this time is very light and jumpy. Possibly it is not an expensive thing to fix, unless like my M8 is broken. Having to wait for months for this is the biggest issue. I think the design is not sturdy, and perhaps this is why it was changed on the M. G> PS do not try to fix it yourself or clean it by inserting things in the gap. it makes things worst. just leave it and if it is a big issue send for maintenance Edited May 14, 2016 by geotrupede

Sounds very much like it. However, my wheel never stops working so at least it does not stop me in any way... At least so far And yes; sending the camera away is never easy... regards, Stein
david strachan Posted May 15, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 15, 2016 (edited) This problem has occurred with my M8 camera. It is due to dander, or gunk build-up along the contacts under the wheel. Feed a couple of drops of "Electronic Cleaning Fluid" into the mechanism through the edges of the wheel. CRC Industries make the one I use, in a spray can. Work the wheel around a few times, back and forth...fixed. Do it again if necessary. Try not to get the liquid all over your leatherette; it can stain. cheers... And I am familiar with the "miracle solvent" from CRC... however, not in use with delicate electronics like a camera (more with bikes and cars). I'll think about it though.... david strachan Posted May 15, 2016 Share #6 Posted May 15, 2016 Hahaha, not bike degreaser. Highest quality "Electronic Cleaning Fluid", also called "CO Contact Cleaner" by CRC. cheers
tobey bilek Posted May 15, 2016 Share #7 Posted May 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) The robust Leicas are gone. They need service more and more. Sending it in is like dropping it down a rabbit hole. Nikons which cost a fraction of the price, have better quality records ( quality in general sense. not does it meet design standards which is the true definition).
