Sometimes you'll do better in macro doing manual focus, but not that often. You'll also discover with auto focus or manual that you'ved zoomed in too far for your camera to subject distance. In that case zoom out or move back a bit. The file size is usually big enough to alow cropping. On the back of the camera just to the right of the viewfinder is a 3-position switch. If I recall the bottom position is the best one for macro.
