V Lux 4 digital zoom

I have a Leica V Lux 4.  I enjoy bird photography but am not a photographer.  I like to point and shoot on the automatic setting and until recently I was delighted with my shots, they were very clear and enjoyable.

Things seemed to change and I was not happy so the camera was reset to factory settings.

Before this happened I was able to use the automatic setting and get 24x on optical and 24x on digital.  Now I can't get any digital zoom on the automatic setting.

I know I can use Aperture, which allows me to get 48x and 48x but the photographs are fuzzy and nowhere near the quality.

From taking great photos I rarely get a good result.

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

It's a very small sensor, but the advantage of the huge zoom lens is hard to refuse.

One of our favourites on the Forum is Stuny (Stuart) who used a V Lux 4 for nearly 2 years. I'm sure he will help.

I've had the same camera for a short time. And use it for birding, mainly. And not bad for close-ups (macro).

Sudden changes in your satisfaction may be due to....I wonder if you are pushing the ISO too much? Small sensors don't like that, and you may find the images are "out of focus". I stick to low ISO. It's a camera which works well in good light.

all the best...

Thank you, David.

Eric - I'm probably a bit obsessive about this, but I never use digital zoom since it works by throwing away pixels at the edges of the image, so I will be of no help there.  In the manual they say this:
