Thank you, Otto!

Now that you respond, I had a second look and I must say that you're using an IMO awkward combination: TMax 400 in Ilfosol,  :)   So this is a low grain film in a grainy developer, am I right? Did you do this with a reason?

You're theoretically right, Otto.

The reason why I tried this is... that I had an Ilfosol 3 bottle close to expiry to finish :)

And, of course, to find out what such combination would end up into.

In the end I must say that the result does not look so bad. What do you think?

In fact, due to its sharpness - unless you're looking after very gritty results - Ilfosol 3 is usually a good combination with low speed/low grain films, and not for pushing.

Never the less, due to the very fine grain of the Tmax 400, the combo looks fine to me.

But I'm usually developing Tmax films in HC-110 for getting very balanced tones and grain.

In despite being classified as a non-pro developer, Ilfosol 3 is really great for 100 ASA films if you're seeking extreme sharpness.

I'd use it much more if it didn't go bad so quick.

Yes I like the result, maybe just because it is a special rendering. If you look at the hand of the man in the third photo, you see that at the micro-level there remains something to wish for, but perhaps that's what makes it special

I keep coming back at this, especially the third, which has a very theatrical character. The grain in these images contributes to the expressiveness of the image and this reminds me of the painter Lucian Freud, who showed (me at least) how grain can illicit a sense of sharpness and focus on important areas of the image.

Hahaha, no I hate that film and every tmax, except the  3200 because of its gorgeous grain

I stick to Tri-X and Delta 100
