In for a penny in for a pound.

Last month I bought myself a new Leica M6 (I say new, its obviously not new but new to me in many ways) This month I also bought myself a new Hasselblad 503CW and I plan to do a naughty girl (sussies and all that stuff) photo shoot in KL. The photo shoot is in three parts. First part is I am going to shoot the warm up races at the Malaysian Moto GP in the morning. After that, the fun will begin with a studio shoot (I'm renting my mates studio) with a Marilyn Monroe theme, wind up the skirt, black top sussies, no nickers...........you know the kind of thing we are talking about.:) :)  Then after that shoot, we are heading out to a really pretty garden in the center of KL to do some more shooting with a much tamer theme.................... And guess what, all of this done with film.

A wee bitty of history, I have only ever shot 5 rolls of film in my whole life, that was when I was at home last month and that was with the M6 (Love that camera so frigging much). My other camera the Hasselblad 503CW is leaving Holland today and should be waiting for me when I get home next Friday. I am planning on using my 50mm 2.8 Elmar M on the M6, and either the stock 80mm panar f2.8 on the 503 or what I think will be better the Karl Zeiss 180mm f4 that I picked up yesterday on eBay.

I have already used the M6 with my Profoto B1 heads and that worked perfectly............................. when I remembered to set the frigging shutter speed to 1/60 (I guess that's why they have the 1/60 in red with a flash sign)................... I used up half a roll of film figuring that sh%t out. I have ordered sync cables and everything I think I will need to make the profoto heads fire with the Hasselblad.

If anyone on here has done any studio work with the M6 or the 503CW, I would really appreciate any tips, advice, camera settings etc etc................ so that there isn't any tears 2 days later after the rolls of film have been developed :) :)

I will also take a few shots with the S as a backup.....coward :(

Thanks in advance

Neil

Neil, that must be some sort of record time for one to upgrade film format size from 35mm (6 rolls) to MF ;-)

Mark

It follows my digital.........D7000 to D3s in about 6 weeks :)

Do you have a digital M?  You could use it for test shots before shooting 'for real' on film.

Like Mark said I plan to take my Leica S with me to check exposure and as a back up incase I haven't loaded the film correctly...........ive don that a few times :)

Every one who uses a film M has misloaded a couple of times when they first use one. If this thread is as entertaining as the one you started when you got your M6 it will be a cracker. Don't forget to throw in a bit of bondage and punishment for the naughty girl pics.

Disagree, in Neil terms I reckon it's rather pedestrian. :D

Great to log on and have  chuckle as these threads have provided.

I would be interested to see a few comparison shots between the Hasselblad and the S.

Don't you know the answer already? The most obvious differences are in the highlights and the resolution, mate: just extrapolate from the M6 compared to the MM.

You won't know if you have loaded the film correctly until you come to process it.

Yep Andy I've been there and done that........at least I will have a couple of weeks to practice some more on both cameras before the shoot :)

My plan is two nearby locations in this beautiful garden that we have in the middle of KL. I will have one light with a octagon on it (not sure if that is the right name but its a 4 ft thingie with 8 sides to it) I will use my S first to get the lighting and the exposure right i.e. 1/500 f?? ISO 100 for the Hasselblad then 1/50 f ?? ISO100 for my M6.

My M6 will work with the Profoto Air Trigger, my Hasselblad will work with a sync cable, but maybe also work with the Air Remote with a cable adapter that I ordered from B&H.....will find out when I get home?

I will develop all these myself and digitize them with the S.

I'm thinking on using "Ilford Delta 100 Professional" I have 3 rolls of that for both M6 and 503. I maybe shoot a roll of Portra 400 as well

Neil,

your Hasselblad uses lenses with a built-in leaf shutter (opens up like the aperture diaphragm), which is synchronized with all shutter times to the flash.

The M6 uses a curtain- shutter, which is synchronized to the flash from 1/50 second or slower.

So you could use any shutter time on your 503.

Curious to find out how loading the film in the Hasselblad goes. It appears quite tricky the first time you do it.

One of my early assistants loaded it backwards such that the backing paper faced the lens!!!

I recovered the shoot gracefully (only just) when I realized what he had done.

"We'll just do a few quick retakes at this point" type of scenario.
