dkCambridgeshire Posted April 18, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) In recent weeks and with the assistance of forum member John Dodkins further experiments commenced using the c.1972 Leitz 800mm Telyt S. I'll be posting some results in due course (some nocturnal images are already posted on the SL sub-forum http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/258931-leitz-800mm-telyt-s-with-the-sl/?p=3026808) but this is one of JD's images using the lens with his Canon 5D Mk III showing the Gherkin building at 30 St Mary Axe in the City of London - taken from Alexandra Palace which is 10km distant. The objective of this exercise was and is to explore the imaging potential of 'compressed perspective' - which can show architectural form and shape very differently to that seen with the naked eye. The technique is not easy and relies primarily on good light, good visibility (which does not necessarily result from good light) and very firm camera support. The light and visibility for this image were not optimum - hence the colour (not good to my eyes) - but converted to B&W the Gherkin does look 'different' to the views normally published. For this shot the 800mm was fitted with a Leitz 2x APO extender. Part of Lloyds Building in Lime St is juxtaposed in front of the Gherkin. Welcome, dear visitor! steppenw0lf Posted April 18, 2016 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2016 (edited) In recent weeks ... 26-Gherkin-JD-colour rslf.jpg cont'd ... Hello Dunk. Thanks for the notification. I guess the photo is from yesterday in the evening ? Just played in "Preview" with slightly more exposure, little bit more contrast and shifted the tint a bit towards red and suddenly it looks like glorious dusk. The structures of the gherkin are really fascinating (larger color contrasts than expected, and a bit unpredictable, too). Thanks for undertaking the endevour. war Posted April 18, 2016 Share #4 Posted April 18, 2016 What a nice surprise to wake up to these remarkable images. Yesterday's suburbia shot was also quite nice. These foreshortened views put the art into architectural photography. How else to get those perfect verticals. Your hard work is greatly appreciated. Please keep us up to date on the process.

stuny Posted April 18, 2016 Share #6 Posted April 18, 2016 Quite remarkable. I'd be tempted to punch up the photo via slight iterative increases in shadow and highlight sliders to overcome the haze.
