fstop Posted April 12, 2016 Share #1 Posted April 12, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) My local authorized dealer told me yesterday that Leica is "shutting down, maybe for the rest of April." Reasons? End of their fiscal year . . . technology conversion to new computer system for operations. Whether this refers to Wetzlar, USA, or worldwide, I do not know. I also do not know if this will have an effect on repairs and such. But my dealer said there will be no product shipments from Leica until they reopen. Since this is April 12, I don't think it's an April Fool joke.
Advertisement Posted April 12, 2016 Posted April 12, 2016 Hi fstop, Take a look here Leica Shutting Down for April. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Mark Pope Posted April 14, 2016 Share #2 Posted April 14, 2016 I rang Wetzlar on Monday to pay for 6-bit coding my MATE. The lady who took my call said she thought the job would take 2 weeks. There was no mention of any shut down or delays due to new systems or financial year-end...
fstop Posted April 16, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted April 16, 2016 It may be only USA (New Jersey). Or it may be that my dealer is simply wrong.
dfarkas Posted April 18, 2016 Share #4 Posted April 18, 2016 Leica USA is indeed in the process of switching over to a new ERP system. Shipments have paused until the changeover is complete.

adan Posted April 21, 2016 Share #6 Posted April 21, 2016 That's been standard for years - avoid "elective" repairs to Germany in April (break for new FY, taking inventory, etc.) or August (everyone is on vacation) or December (holidays). Now, it could be that Leica has changed their internal operations, but the people in the field are going on past experience. In about 2008 I sent something in for service in Feb. Checked on it in late March, and it was just getting to the top of the line, and was told (by Solms) - "but we will be taking inventory through April, so it will be May before your camera is ready."
