the 75mm summarit can be found now on fleabay for $750-850 us. a bargain , i have the lens and see no need to spend more money , my wife doesn't look at a my pictures and gasp :o  why didn't you use the 

APO-SUMMICRON 

plus the fact my photography doesn't come close to  the standard of the leica equipment

Maybe, but the real issue with the Summarit 75mm is that once you become comfortable with this focal length and you realize its potential, the natural progression is then the APO Summicron.  This is exactly my experience, and I did not look back since.  For many, the Summarit platform, while very capable (e.g., the 35m and the 75mm), is not really stable (and by stable, I mean has some permanency over time).  For many, the urge to upgrade to Summicron/Summilux, as the case may be, will remain.  YMMV, of course.  Enjoy in good health.

This was my problem - I have the Summarit 2.5 but always wanted the Summicron. It wasn't a need, it was a want - a desire for the 35/75 Summicron pairing. I finally succumbed to my yearning and bought a Summicron which is what I should have done in the first place. The market for selling the Summarit is poor right now, so I'll probably hang onto it for a few years until the market turns. Edited by kenf

With new 75 Summaries selling so cheap I don't think the market wilder 'turn' for this lens. So keep and enjoy or do the Summicron upgrade when GAS strikes.

 

I went from the 2.5/75 CV to 2.0/75 Summicron. I thought the CV was great until I got the Summicron and then realised that the CV was fine for it's price, compactness and light weight, but IQ did not compare (as it shouldn't at 1/10 the price of the Summicron).

 

The 75 Summarit was not for me as it is a too contrasty for my liking, and at the time GAS dictated the Summicron which I have never regretted buying.

Either way (upgrade or not) it remains the most cost effective way to try out the 75mm focal length in a Leica. It is one of the only (Leica) focal lengths that older models are not affordable.

 

I think most people would get the 2.5(2.4)/75 Summarit to see if they liked using a 75mm. Some don't and sell it, some do and buy a Summicron (selling the Summarit), and some use it occasionally and keep it. So if 2/3rds of buyers sell the lens, then there will be a glut in the used market, the prices for used models will stabilize, but not recover - especially with the 2.4/75 focusing closer too.

Well, you buy one new with a warranty for $760 and you don't like it? Resell it 6 months or a year later for $600 and it's essentially the cost of a rental. We're I to have bought it for $1600, I wouldn't be so sanguine.

Then again you might make the Summarit 'upgrade' to the APO Summicron _and_ keep the Summarit because it didn't cost that much, is much lighter and gives you most of the performance of the cron. After a couple weeks impressing yourself with the Summicron files and comparing them with the Summarit's you end up going back to the Summarit for most purposes. Thats what I think would happen to me if I had bought them in that order. I have the 50 Summilux ASPH and a 50 Summicron 'Type 3'. I recently found myself with a mint 50 Summarit 2.5 (don't ask how these things can turn up inadvertently in my dry cabinet.) Since then, it's stuck on my M Monochrom as my walk around, daytime lens, an enticing combination of light weight, small size and (to my amateur eye ) irreproachable performance. Sharp , contrasty from wide open on. I do most of my shooting either in every day walk around situations (going back and forth from work. In between work, or when I'm supposed to be at work ), or while traveling. Both favor light kit. This happens to me even though the gap between the 50 ASPH and Summarit is greater than between the 75 APO Summicron and the 75 Summarits. By analogy with this experience, I'm tempted to "downgrade " from the hefty 75 APO Summicron in my cabinet (that's been used mainly for indoor and studio experiments, hence only portraiture ) to the 75 Summarit -- something I'd actually carry around and shoot a lot more. I'd maybe learn to use that focal length for something more than portraiture. Only , "downgrade" in the case of the Leica glass in my cabinet, would mean "get that other one and forget to part with the old one." It's a hopeless situation. I wouldn't sniff at the Summarits and their kin the 24 f/3.8 with their more automated (less hand-made ) manufacture, lighter bodies, slower speeds and lower prices. The 24/3.8 is a joy. If I had been half rational starting out with my collection, I'd have started with these and might not have needed their faster, heavier, far pricier counterparts for a while. This would apply even more at less commonly used focal lengths such as 75 and 24mm. Now let me get off this thread to check the low 75 Summarit prices I'm hearing about from you guys. .

I picked one of these up at the bargain price a few months ago. Great lens and I am very pleased with it. A 75 Summicron would be great, but I don't use this focal length enough to justify one. Hah, I'll probably find some way to justify it at some point!

 

The Summarits are the gateway drugs for Leica  :p

Just received a brand new 75/2.5 from PhotoAlps. Great little lens indeed. Has little to envy to my Summicron 75/2. Nice apparent quality in spite of the rubber grip. My R 280/4 and 28/2.8 have the same rubber grip after all.... The 75/2.5 is significantly lighter than the 75/2, very sharp at all apertures, smooth bokeh, no disturbing CA. Only con is flare when strong light sources are just outside the frame. It is not the only Leica lens like that though. Better use a hat, your hand or the dedicated 12460 hood included in the PhotoAlps package. This hood can be reversed on the lens for transportation and comes itself with a nice metal hood cap. It is not as handy as the built-in hood of the Summicron though but the later is less effective as a shade due to its smaller size. Another con of the 75/2.5 is its minimum focus distance of 0.9 metre (vs 0.7m for 75/2 & 75/2.4) but the 75/2.5 stays sharp down to 0.6/0.7 metre on my A7s mod with CV close focus adapter.

I see no CA in these photos taking a look at the leaf edges at various point in the image. A great lens for a bargain price IMO
