Curious incident

Hello Everybody,

Yesterday, while looking thru "View New Content", I came across a Thread in German called "How many of you using color filters?" by Leica1215.

My German is sufficient to read the Thread but my technical/photographic German is not sufficient to answer the questions precisely enough.

Therefore I began my Post (#13) in German & then switched to English explaining why.

Today when I went back to see if there was any response to the Post the Thread was in English. I wrote a short query (#14) & then decided to ask here.

Has anyone on this Forum read a Thread or Post on this Forum that was in 1 language when you first saw it & was in another language when you went back to see what if any response there had been?

As I said in the other Thread: "curious".

Best Regards,

Michael

Michael -

I've noticed your first attempt at replying in German and I wondered why you did so. I have not been able to detect anything on that page in German.

As to the causes, I can only offer guesses:

Advert on the page with German content.

Browser temporarily showing part of another page, perhaps only briefly.

Or perhaps you were distracted between reading the question and writing your answer and you thought for reasons unknown that the thread was in German.

It happens to me at times than I'm not aware of the language of a text I've just read or heard. One time, I was quite taken aback when my wife complained after a movie that she would have preferred it in German; I hadn't noticed that it wasn't.

Hello Philipp,

Something like 1 of the things that you suggested is quite possible.

I use the Google "translate" function on occasion & it is also possible that it "stuck" when I was coming from a previous Thread in the German Forum & that the previously used "translate" function automatically engaged itself & translated the English Post into German.

Generally, when you move from 1 Thread to the next the "translate" function simply turns itself off. After that the Thread that you go to next is in its original language.

By the way: This never happened before.

By the way a 2nd time: I went to the Thread in question before coming here: Leica1215 said that he does not speak German.

Best Regards,

Michael
