Hey guys (and ladies)

So after a mix up with the seller i ended up having an M9 without a bottom plate.

The seller has agreed to cover half the cost and i'm wondering whether i should get the original plate or an M-mate2. The cost is about the same, 250 for the original plate abd 235 for the m-mate.

Anyone has any experience with the m-mate? Is the quality on par with the original?

Thank you for your input

Well i told him that i didnt need the grip he had on. But he didnt tell me that he didnt have the plate. I'm in Cyprus and he is in Germany so to avoid further hassle like return/refund/finding new camera etc we came to this agreement. I know that i'm on the worse side of the deal but i gotit at an ok price so it kind of balances out.

Take the grip.  It's an upgrade and you could swap it later with an M9 owner who would want one. I doubt you'll want to do that after experiencing it.    However, make sure it's the genuine grip.  My grip hasn't been off my M9-P for over two years.  The body without the grip isn't as safe to handle.

I totally love the M Mate 2.  Having to take off the bottom plate to get to the chip & battery to me, is a design flaw.  I understand the historical nod to old film M's but its a pain in the butt.  Got one for my M-E too - can't not have one!

As for the grip, nah.  Get a Thumbie instead - very slick design, weighs nothing, very functional.  I took mine off when I sent the body in for sensor replacement.  As promised, no residue - it comes with extra adhesive strips..  Other than that, has held very secure for 5+ yrs bouncing around in camera bags, off my body etc.  I do not baby my cameras:

PS:  I'm an M shooter 44+ yrs.  These cameras are fantastic.  Have fun when you get yours set up.

PSS:  If you are a 50mm shooter, consider the 2.0 Summicron Ver 4 from the 80's.  What rendering!

And print big!  :)

Always been a 50mm shooter but i decided to go 35mm with this one. try it out and if i find it too wide i will go back to the 50. But i've always found the 50mm to be more on the portrait side.

I've contacted Luigi and the m-mate is all set pending payment. I found a used M8 plate that i'm considering also. Whatever happens today i'm making a purchase. i cant stand having the camera and not being able to shoot.
