ECohen Posted March 5, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 5, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) DLux6 settings ...general I use a M because of its simple menu and the things that is doesn't do. We'll today my wife handed me her DLux6 ....a wonderful camera and asked me to set it up for inside people/groups for an inside party....Her aunt turned 90 I'm wondering how you all set up for a simple inside event? I like a little flash in the front and the background not too dark...natural. On a manual camera that's what I would do ...And I'm sure it 's in the DLux6 someplace?...Or whats an easy setup so she doesn't have to think ? Ive only used this camera outside on aperture/shutter speed preferred and P for general travel. All help is welcome I'm totally open and flexible

ChrisRL Posted March 5, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 5, 2016 If your wife is to be shooting and then passing the camera around, I'd set it at full auto with flash set permanently on. Spare batteries and cards would be recommended!
wda Posted March 5, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 5, 2016 I have the preceding and succeeding models but presume my suggestions would work on another family member of the D-Lux clan. Set the camera to SNAPSHOT mode and shoot by available light. If too dark, pop-up the built-in flash to add to ambient lighting. Just tried two shots in my study with pleasing results, albeit without people present. Ambient light would help prolong battery life. Second, you could set the camera to resume at last zoom setting and hand the camera over with the zoom set to 28 or 35mm equivalent. That should be ideal for a party setting. I hope that helps. Thanks ...I have a setting called SCN but I don't see "snapshot"mode...I'm sure it's in there ....but where is a mystery I'm going to go with A (auto) switch on the strobe, auto ISO and call it a day I like the quality of this little camera but it's got too many layers of menus and too choices.....also I don't use it enough to remember where all the settings are within the different modes. This is where I think the design falls short....good design should be intuitive. I have a lot of photography experience, but like all "fancy" pocket cameras there is too much going on. What happened to the KISS philosophy ? I have a few more hours to change my mind if there are any better suggestions. Thanks Edited March 5, 2016 by ECohen
wda Posted March 5, 2016 Share #5 Posted March 5, 2016 On my DL5 it is on the function dial on top, marked in black on white in contrast to the conventional A mode which is in white lettersing. On the latest model, it is a small button marked A on the top plate. I suppose both of these options meets your desire for KISS, although I have never used them myself. Thanks thats what I'm calling A for Auto ...as opposed to the A for aperture priority ... I sincerely appreciate your help ...I guess I need to read the instructions and stop complaining Edited March 5, 2016 by ECohen
