platypus Posted March 3, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 3, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) This abandoned rail siding is a favourite subject and almost always worth a shot if the light is good, yesterday it was nicely diffused by smoke and dust. The miniature donkeys were tucking into a big bale of hay and looked quite content despite the simmering heat. Sadly the little "waiting room" beside the platform is showing it's age, the rear foundations, which are only tree stumps, are slowly sinking into the ground giving the little building a noticeable backward lean. Iduna Posted March 5, 2016 Share #5 Posted March 5, 2016 Dee, an interesting story and a very balanced picture in spite of the difficult light situation. BW conversion?
platypus Posted March 5, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted March 5, 2016 (edited) Dee, an interesting story and a very balanced picture in spite of the difficult light situation. BW conversion? Iduna, thanks. As you have already seen a b&w version of this image appears in my flickr photostream. I am disgusted with myself as this is something I never do....when I take a shot in my mind it is already either b&w or colour, this particular shot was colour.....but later I was tempted to do a b&w conversion and then liked it enough to succumb to the temptation of putting it on flickr with my so called "serious" b&w stuff .....in doing so I broke a strict personal rule. No, it just shows that you are still open minded and versatile. Mark Oh, very nice photo Dee. I can see why you keep going back there. platypus Posted March 6, 2016 Author Share #9 Posted March 6, 2016 No, it just shows that you are still open minded and versatile. Mark Oh, very nice photo Dee. I can see why you keep going back there. Mark, thanks for putting a positive spin on this....much appreciated! I keep going back to this iconic little building because I like the utter incongruity of it sitting all alone out there, though really it made a better image before the donkey farm encroachment onto what is actually railway land...I just hope it gets propped up by 'someone' before it topples over backwards. Iduna Posted March 7, 2016 Share #10 Posted March 7, 2016 Iduna, thanks. Dee, oh, the rules, yes - but never mind. In this particular case there is the proof that the split mind also work very well. Light was harsh and so colours were pale and the BW version brings out all those fine shades and emphasizes them. Keep going neglecting the rules....
