Hello,

yesterday I noticed, that the focus ring on my Summilux-R 50mm has come loose. When i push the ring back in direction of the mount it still focuses, with the feeling of a slight slip now and then. When I just turn it without pushing back it clicks and moves 1-2mm towards the front end of the lens and disengages. Has anyone had a similar problem or knows about a fix other than the expensive trip to a Leica representative?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Jay

I have had this happen with several R lenses. With older lenses, the grease becomes sticky, and when you turn the focus ring using more force to overcome the resistance imposed by the sticky grease, the focus ring unscrews itself, sometimes completely. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to screw the ring back on correctly without partly dismantling the lens. Also, the lens will have to be properly adjusted to infinity once the focus ring has been correctly mounted again. No need to send it to Leica though, any free service person should be able to do this.

Thanks for the replies! I found a pretty cool clip about the problem with a similar lens:

Personally though I will not attempt this, as I neither have the tools nor the knowhow to adjust it. Since my lens is from the 1970´s I am sure it can benefit from a service anyway ;) Just hope it won´t be too expensive...

To be cont´d
