willeica Posted February 29, 2016 Share #41 Posted February 29, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) This could explain Leica's thinking. http://www.mobileworldlive.com/mwc16-articles/getty-chief-says-one-in-four-new-images-from-phones/?utm_campaign=Mobile%20World%20Daily%20–%20Issue%205%20%28Day%205%29%20%20%3a%20MWC&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua Unlike the PC market in 1980, the smartphone market is now very crowded and there many other features on such devices which are outside of Leica's current area of competence. Survival or opportunity? Time will tell. William
Advertisement Posted February 29, 2016 Posted February 29, 2016 Hi willeica, Take a look here Breaking News - Leica is entering the Smartphone Market. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
IWC Doppel Posted March 1, 2016 Share #42 Posted March 1, 2016 I read the LFI interview with the Oliver Kaltner, I think he's on the money here in principle. He made some interesting points about the market where the pocket Camera as we know is becoming redundant. As the market polarises there will be a gap opening between phone's and a quality camera. I also think the ability for mobile devices and imaging and the use of these images is an interesting area. Leica has the optical knowledge the brand and if the image, picture, photograph is Leica's reason for being, a foot in two camps partnering with a high tech substantive non competitive partner is clever. Leica will need to really bring something to the party (ie not brand alone) or it wont work IMO. I will wait and see but I think it's more focussed and considered than I might have done if I hadn't read the interview. He also hinted heavily then the new M will be a parred down tool, using technology appropriately. I am thinking the 262 was a dry run to see if all the banter about wanting a pure M was real. He even talked about the automotive parallel with driver involvement and technological support. Maybe the next gen GT3 will be manual (I cant afford one, but think it might) and the new M will be M6 size, no (or optional video), with some appropriate improvements with an improved 24-25 MP sensor. I suspect the viewing optics is where we'll see the innovation
jaapv Posted March 1, 2016 Share #43 Posted March 1, 2016 AFAIK the GT3 has always had a manual transmission, with auto an option (except on the RS) - but this is Europe...

larsv Posted March 5, 2016 Share #46 Posted March 5, 2016 ...... I cannot imagine Apple setting such a president as carrying anyone's logo without huge compensation, which might be invasive. Were you thinking of Mr Trump?

These are from a previous model with dual camera:

Doc Henry Posted April 9, 2016 Share #50 Posted April 9, 2016 (edited) As camera back-up and with the possibility to call , the images are not bad at all.Maybe time for me to change my old i-Phone , with Sony sensor in place of a dual Leica sensor and Summarit lens The ability to shoot in b&w or color is ingenious IMO, look at the pictures here : http://petapixel.com/2016/04/06/first-photos-taken-dual-lens-huawei-p9/ For me , there is a Leica label specially in color pictures (3,8,9 and 10)* Regards Henry * photos of Paris (edges of Seine river, Pont des Arts near Le Louvre, sunset over Seine river and le Louvre) Edited April 9, 2016 by Doc Henry
CheshireCat Posted April 10, 2016 Share #51 Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) dual Leica sensor and Summarit lens Sorry, there is no Leica sensor (it's a dual Sony sensor) and the lens has just been co-designed with Leica (not manufactured by Leica). Also, 27mm can't be the actual focal length, but the "full-frame equivalent" focal length. Quite misleading. Chapeau to Huawei marketing dept. The article title contradicts the article text, as the sensors are actually from Sony. Also, if we stick to the text: les optiques, elles (deux blocs de 27 mm qui ouvrent à f/2.2), ont été entièrement imaginées par Leica. we understand that: - The author does not have the slightest idea of the difference between focal length and 35mm equivalent FOV, and fell into the marketing trap. - The sensor has been designed (imagined) by Leica. And we know that imagining is different than manufacturing. All in all, what I have learned from this article is that it is better to stay away from such a low-quality web site Edited April 11, 2016 by CheshireCat

wattsy Posted April 14, 2016 Share #58 Posted April 14, 2016 It's an intelligent move by Huawei to license the Leica name (and possibly some actual Leica optical know-how). Irrespective of the actual results and comparison with other phone cameras, the Leica name lends this new phone prestige and credibility it wouldn't otherwise have.
