Stunning image. Personally, I prefer the original version. The buildings on the skyline are so glowing that nothing else in the frame competes for attention. I also like what's going on with the reflections on the choppy water--the flicks of gold here and there. That's worth preserving.

Eternal question; to crop or not to crop....in this instance definitely not. This lovely image needs it's foreground.

...but the foreground is underexposed and void of any added interest.   The photo is all about the natural light hitting the NYC buildings.  The foreground is total dead space dominating the photo and significantly diminishing the composition of the skyline.  So I say most definitely crop!!  :)

a crop, yes, Adam is right but Dee also is right that the picture need foreground. so my suggestion would be to leave at least half of the rippled water at the right because it gives a bit lighted foregrod and will balance out the height of the tower of the new WTC.

Crop and you'll get hundreds of suggestions

Iduna...thanks for your comments and suggestions.   Your post made me realize I never posted the final crop I had made. I ended up with exactly what you have suggested.  I took a bit more time with it an used a 16:9 ratio ( as opposed to free form); looks pretty balanced to me now.
