Auto focus AF-C mode advice please

Apologies if covered before, but I have a new T camera and can't see that the AF-C mode does anything different to AF-S. It definitely does not seem to continuously focus while the shutter is half pressed, which is what I would expect. It just locks focus like in AF-S mode. This is the same on the 23, 18-56, and the 55-135mm lenses.

Does anyone know how the AF-C is supposed to work on the T?

many thanks

I don't know about other people but I think that it may be a regression and I was waiting for someone else to speak up. I think I remember it working some time ago and used it for some handheld flower shots near the minimum focal distance. There is a difference between AF-C and tracking AF holds the focus on something that kind of pans across the FOV. I thought you may be confused by the difference and started playing with it trying to come up with a demonstration of the difference between the two. Instead, I observed what you seem to have where AFS and AFC end up being the same with 1.5. Like I'm said, I'm fairly sure that it worked last spring or summer and so I think somewhere between 1.3 and 1.5 it regressed but I failed to notice it. I'd bet that the 1.4 faster AF upgrade likely broke it but we were so wowed by the quicker focus lock we failed to notice.

Many thanks Bencoyote.

No I am not expecting tracking across the field of view as per the SL (or Nikon 3D focusing equivalent). I just expect that - while the shutter is half held down - it would refocus within the selected focus zone if the object in focus changed distance from the lens. This is definitely not happening.

I can't see any difference at all between AF-S and AF-C.

Philip,

Thanks. Noted but the T is not doing that either. I also tried to see if AF-C refocused when taking multiple shots in continuous shot mode, or whether it was used to create a shutter priority vs focus priority setting - but it does none of these things.

Looks like a bug possibly at FW 1.4 where the AF-C is longer functional.

Update - I have reset the camera and now it refocusses while the shutter not pressed as per Odin and Tom above (different to the SL and most Nikons where AF-C tracks when the shuttle half pressed).

Therefor not a bug, just my camera acting up temporarily.

Thanks for the prior responses.
