$2000 for M6TTL and 50/2 Summicron-M a good deal?

Both appear to be excellent shape. No box/literature for the camera; just the body cap. The lens looks great and comes with soft carrying case and caps but no box/literature as well.

Looks like a great deal compared to some of the used M6TTL's and what they have been going for alone. Let me know quick!

It would depend on the operating condition and careful inspection of both the body and lens, as well as the version of the lens. IMHO not a good deal unless everything works smoothly, accurately, and well....and with a reasonable return or repair privilege.

If you think it's a great deal compared to others you've seen what's stopping you?

I value the opinions of people who have been using and collecting Leica gear for many years such as the people on this forum. Prices with equipment usually fluctuate and I would assume Leica is no different. I just wanted to make sure that it was a solid deal.

Currently here in the UK typical prices for a nice condition 'standard' M6 TTL (  by standard I mean 'not' one of the special edition variants ) seem to be between £800 and £1100.  The current 50 'Cron ( non APO ) between £800 and £1200 so for arguments sake lets lets say I would expect to pay about £1000.00 for each making a total cost of £2000.00 ,  assuming that the £/$ exchange is still somewhere around 1.50 that would equate to $3000.00 US.

Therefore  IMO yes, it would appear to be a good deal, SO LONG AS everything is fine with both lens and body.  If either need attention then it could well be 'not such a good deal' after-all.  Ensure they are in good order, both optically and mechanically, that there is a decent repair or return warranty and if so and assuming they are what you want go for it.

Kind regards, Simon

There's no way to tell without inspecting the camera/lens oneself. Peoples idea of what 'excellent' condition is can vary enormously and with Leica gear condition makes a big difference.

Your best guide is to look at sold items on ebay in similar condition (from what you can tell) and prices on s/h dealers websites but allow for them being higher than ebay prices to allow for dealer margins, taxes, warranties etc.

Didn't pull the trigger. Both the camera and lens looked flawless though. Am now looking at trading some Canon L glass for a NSH M6TTL with another photographer. It's supposedly in very nice and only 400 of this model were made. It was a part of their millennium collection when it was released. The viewfinder is .85 but I don't mind. If anything, when I use a 35, it will make the entire viewfinder the frame line and I can live with that. I plan on using a 50 primarily anyways.

As lons as there aren't any major flaws with the camera, I'm hoping I can make it happen. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Kupo,

Late to reply, but wanted to share my purchase price with you for a similar kit. This past fall (2015), I bought an early edition M6 (circa 1986) and a type 3 Summicron 50. Purchased separately, the body was $1000 (cash, no tax, private sale), and the 50 was $800. The body is in great shape, and lens is only missing few paint markings on the focus scale numbers, which is not a big deal to me. My point is, you can probably find a kit a little cheaper if you look around enough. Fortunately, in Austin, TX there is usually a decent used market - which helps. Also, our local store here will make deals on used gear, so always ask if purchasing from a retailer!
