Hello everyone! I finally have a M9. It's refreshing to say the least. While I only have a Zeiss 50mm Planar f/2 with it, I've been able to take pictures with sheer enjoyment. The experience grows in you. Can't really explain...

 

I have to admit, coming from a Canon 1DX to a RF is completely a B&W comparison. I'm trying to squeeze-in the shooting envelope when shooting in low light and at high ISO numbers. With that, it can be challenging but also rewarding. I feel all my experience suddenly regrouped and utilized. I love it! I may need to get a brighter lens to get 1.5 to 2 tops at most to at least double my shutter speed. I can't afford 50mm Noct. or the 35 FLE yet so I may consider the Voigtlander 35/1.2 V2.

 

For now, I will go out and shoot away!

Maybe wait to see how the revised 35 Summicron turns out? I too bought a s/h M9 recently and disposed of my M240 – much prefer the IQ with the CCD sensor. With the rangefinder eyepiece it can be worth testing the screw-in dioptres for the older user, or someone who wears spectacles for distance. They make a big difference when focussing.

Welcome to the Forums!   This is a pretty cool place to hang out.  I learn a lot from folks here.

 

Congrats on your M9 acquisition.   It's most definitely a different experience from your EOS 1DX.  Hopefully you'll tumble to the methodology of using the camera quickly.  There's no shame in using non-Leitz lenses either.  I have several '60s and early '70s vintage Leitz lenses, (65mm to 135mm) and from 21mm to 75mm my stable are all Voigtlander.   I have both the 35mm f/1.2 v1 and 50mm f/1.1 Noktons, and absolutely love them.  You can't find better lenses, IMHO, and certainly not for the prices the Voigtlanders command.

Yeah. I heard about their revised 35 Summicron. I am sure it will be an improvement. I think with the M9, I need a brighter lens to help in low light. It's encouraging to hear about your disposal of your M240 and purchased a M9. I'm just so proud about my purchase. I may need that screw-in diopters when my eyes started to go bad. So far, I have no problem (crossing fingers).

Thank you for the warm welcome! Getting to know this new way (perhaps for me) of shooting, preparing, planning and predicting is quite rewarding after the shot. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I appreciate it a lot. I think I will sell the Planar and get a Nokton 50/1.1 but I will get the Voigtlander 35/1.2 II for my indoor low light situations. I think this two lens will help me get in within the shooting envelope with the M9. I'll post some photos soon!

I've used Leica RFs with Summicron 35 & 50 f2 lenses for 50 years, and find it the most enjoyable combination. I never used flash with a Leica, and still prefer the f2 lenses for quality and size. Don't give up on your Planar too fast and be seduced by the dark side.

Much appreciate it! "dark side"...haha! Thanks for sharing! So far the Planar has been treating me so well! The resolving power and combination of the CCD sensor goes so well.
