Nick De Marco Posted December 3, 2015 Share #1 Posted December 3, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a little thanks - as we are often all too ready to moan. First, I want into Red Dot yesterday for a friendly chat and as I was trying to look for a tiny screw to fix a lens hood on my 50mm summilux ASPH. They didn't have the screw, and I ended up buying a lovely black painted (not black paint) M2 (below with a cheeky Russian jupiter 35mm f2.8) for a good price and they thew in some film too. They also called Leica Mayfair who said they had the screws. Thanks. Then today I went to Leica Mayfair and they (i) gave my M a sensor clean and (ii) found and fitted the screw for my lux hood. And NO charge at all. Thanks. It's so nice to have such good customer service sometimes. Welcome, dear visitor! Joshua Lowe Posted December 4, 2015 Share #3 Posted December 4, 2015 You may want to periodically check that screw for tightness as it does seem to back out quite easily. I have a set of JIS screwdrivers and used them to tighten the screw on my 50's hood. Since then it's been solid. Just take care as it's very easy to strip or break such a small screw. http://www.amazon.com/Moody-Tools-Driver-Pollicis-58-0405/dp/B0001X0SK8/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1449187730&sr=8-9&keywords=jis+screwdriver+set
FeralCoton Posted December 4, 2015 Share #4 Posted December 4, 2015 on screws that backout, a small drop of Loctite will help keep it in place.

A Almulla Posted December 4, 2015 Share #7 Posted December 4, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thumbs up from me too on Red Dot Camera. Family run business and you know it as soon as you step in.
Musotographer Posted December 5, 2015 Share #8 Posted December 5, 2015 +1 I have had multiple dealings with Richard Caplan, Leica Mayfair and Red Dot and they are all consistently excellent; incredibly helpful even if they are not going to be making any money from the matter in hand. It is always a great pleasure to visit any of them - and Mrs Red Dot (I assume) can be very funny.
Guest Posted December 8, 2015 Share #9 Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) I have found that the service I have received from Red Dot and Leica Mayfair is well worth travelling for. I just buy a cheap Virgin rail ticket and make a day of it.Always plenty to do in London. A return ticket from Manchester cost me £20 the last time I went. wda Posted December 8, 2015 Share #10 Posted December 8, 2015 That is very reasonable Brian. I can see why you are tempted.
ademora Posted December 12, 2015 Share #11 Posted December 12, 2015 I can also vouch for Red Dot. Bought my M240P from them a few months ago, took time to explain the camera in detail and then delivered it to the office later in the afternoon free!! Tempted to go back for a M film camera and 90mm lenses
zipper Posted December 15, 2015 Share #12 Posted December 15, 2015 Can confirm great service from Ivor and Elaine at Red Dot and Jim at Leica Mayfair, nice people.
ademora Posted January 8, 2016 Share #13 Posted January 8, 2016 As a follow up I did go back for a almost mint m2 , unfortunately a small fault with the slow shutter speeds but what do you expect with a camera made in 1960. No hesitation from Red Dot to fix it. First class service.
Dan Bachmann Posted March 1, 2016 Share #14 Posted March 1, 2016 Red Dot, Richard Kaplan and Leica Mayfair have all been good to me too. I've bought Leica LTM comptable lenses from other shops in London, but there is something special about these Leica specialists.
