Leica Q in the rain

Has anyone used their Q in the rain? It's quite gloomy, windy and rainy (lovely English weather) today in London, and the sadist in me would like to go to Hyde Park today to get a few pictures. Would the Leica Q be able to withstand some rainfall on it?

I'm fairly sure the Q is not environmentally sealed.

Yeah, it's not safe for sure.  One thing I would definitely do is put some gaffer tape on the mic holes that sit right on top of the body...

I'd use any camera in the rain, taking it out from 'shelter' just to take the shot/s, and wiping any rain off with a cloth before tucking it under a coat/putting it back in the bag until the next shot. 

 

There's no need to let it get soaked!

I agree with covering the mic holes and personally I have used mine when it has been raining. I just keep it under my jacket, take it out when I want to take a shot and keep a synthetic chamois-leather type cloth which I use to wipe the camera off every now and then. Have used this method over the years with all types of cameras and it works fine.

Seriously?!?! Torrential downpour perhaps not, English drizzle no problem.

 

Gaffer up the mic holes for comfort and go for it. Photos of soggy people are always gold. :-)

I've used mine a couple of times in monsoon downpours in SE Asia. It didn't get completely soaked but it certainly got pretty wet on both occasions. No issues at all, and it didn't even fog up like my M9 used to.

 

I have taped up the mic holes though....to stop dust ingress when traveling for long periods in a tuk tuk along dirt roads.

I keep a rag handy to wipe it though in conditions like these.

 

No issues with the Q.

very nice illustrative picture.

 

I like the idea of covering the mike grid. I always have a plastic bag at hand and never had therefore any problems with any camera even if in heavy rain. A cloth is mandatory and here I use a small outdoor towel which is soft and can soak much water.

Whenever I travel and stay in a hotel I fetch the free shower caps from the bathroom accessories . They are handy to protect my DSLR cameras, although a bit too big for my Q (but I can manage it).

I'd love to hear about other solutions and experiences as well.

I'm not talking about dunking in in the sea or down the toilet (where I've put the occasional phone!) but normal wet conditions whilst taking reasonable, but not fanatical care?

 

I think we may be a little too precious about our cameras sometimes, but stand to be corrected.
