Hi I hope to purchase the Leica SL when funds permit. Along with this I wanted to buy an L Plate for landscape work. Having bought gear from Really Right Stuff before I would like to stick to this brand. I read somewhere that the Really Right Stuff MC-L: Multi Camera L Plate should work. Can forum members please confirm this to be the case.

Thank you. Glen

John Eaton reported it fitted and worked fine on the SL in this GetDPI.com forum thread: http://www.getdpi.com/forum/leica/56504-fun-leica-sl-digital-post670708.html#post670708

I've usually bought just the small tripod plate for my cameras because I often want to leave it attached and I find the L-plates cumbersome. I found that Acratech makes an interesting "Universal L Bracket" that I'm considering buying: http://www.acratech.net/l-brackets-and-nodal-rails/universal-l-bracket/. This would enable me to use the L bracket with any of my cameras and also enable its use with the three large, heavy telephoto lenses I have that have fixed tripod mounting points on the lens, without a rotating collar. For me, it is a viable alternative.

I am using the B9 plate from Really Right Stuff on the SL.

It is not a L Plate, but it has an anti-twist flange and bi-diretional dovetails.

The Arca Swiss CUBE tripod head would be an excellent solution. I was lucky to find a secondhand example:

… there are several YouTube videos illustrating its versatility.

And a Korean company makes a clone.

I bought that Acratech L-bracket. It's beautifully made and works very well. The clamp can be rotated and positioned on it for best access and convenient fit with whatever you're attaching to it.

Combined with the RRS BP-CS general purchase camera plate on the SL, it works very flexibly. It works well combined with the Induro PU-50 camera plates fitted to the Telyt-R 250 and Elmarit-R 180 as well.

Really Right Stuff now has an L-plate for the SL.

It fits and works well. You don't need to detach it to change the battery because it has a couple of strategically placed holes that give access to the battery and the battery release lever.

Funnily enough I've just posted on the M forum about my L bracket experience... I sold my M and got the SL, and the ProMediaGear Universal L bracket also works superbly on the SL (I sold my M for the SL).  Just an other perspective/experience:

"I've used the RRS L bracket (for my M9) and the Arca Swiss Universal L bracket; I backpack and weight is important to me, as is quality.  I can't recommend one of these from ProMediaGear enough:

http://www.promediag...ersal_c_22.html

I have the 3" version.

One real advantage, apart from price and weight, is that it stores the allen key within the bracket, which is a great feature, espacially if you are like me and lose stuff...

So, for cost, quality, weight, adaptability and practicability I can't recommend this enough.  I sold my Arca Swiss Universal L bracket; and I won't do RSS simply because you have to change bracket with each new camera.

Oh yes, and I too had problems with RSS - their ball-head with 'Arca Swiss compatible' lever clamp did not take the Arca Swiss bracket - it wouldn't close enough to clamp, which was a major disappointment for such an expensive item, and their customer service wasn't particularly helpful either.  So Peter Wright above mirrors my experience."

I didn't bother with the L Plate add-on.  I think it adds a bit too much bulk and for the few times I need it I can just adjust with my ball head.  The fact that I can sling and hang the SL vertically on my hip is worth the cost alone.  Also, the added depth to body provides a bit more grip vertically with feels nice in my hands.

I screwed up. I just bought the base plate and now the L part is on back order.........I will wait and get the L bit as well

+1 for the RRS L-plate, works great and it's flush with the camera (except for the L bit):
