marcg Posted November 25, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it correct that you get a Leica passport in UK but not in France?
Advertisement Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Hi marcg, Take a look here Passport in France??. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Paulus Posted November 25, 2015 Share #2 Posted November 25, 2015 Ehat exactly is the use of a Leica passport. Warranty is everywhere I suppose?
marcg Posted November 25, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted November 25, 2015 Yes - but I have read that although the warranty is valid everywhere, you only get it of you buy your Leica in UK - and no doubt some other countries - but not if you buy it in France. I find this very strange but I wanted to check if it was true. Customer service in UK is 2 million times better than in France anyway so I would rather deal with a UK supplier - but if there was a passport in France, then I might waiver as it is presently easier for me to pick one up in Paris while I am there
lucerne Posted November 25, 2015 Share #4 Posted November 25, 2015 The passport warranty extends the normal manufacturers warranty which covers failure of the camera and provides cover against accidental damage and some other potential problems. In other words, it's an insurance. . It only comes with items that you are purchasing new from an authorised Leica dealer. There are variations of the cover in some countries. marcg Posted November 25, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted November 25, 2015 Thanks. I understood what it is - but I was surprised that it didn't accompany all new leicas - wherever they were bought.
jaapv Posted November 25, 2015 Share #6 Posted November 25, 2015 The Leica Passport is an extra insurance which is issued by Leica UK, a separate company in the Leica family. It is only extended for free to UK residents buying in the UK. If you send a camera to Wetzlar under passport guaranty, Leica CS will bill Leica UK. Until a few years back buyers living outside the UK got the passport as well, nowadays not any more.
marcg Posted November 25, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted November 25, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Ta. That's fine by me - but do others not get some equivalent? Seems a bit unfair when the price seems to be pretty level - Euro or Sterling.
earleygallery Posted November 25, 2015 Share #8 Posted November 25, 2015 You need to take it up with the French distributor.
Paulus Posted November 25, 2015 Share #9 Posted November 25, 2015 Until a few years back buyers living outside the UK got the passport as well, nowadays not any more. I think it strange I never got one. I'm buying Leica equippement for more than a decade? Something to do with certain dutch dealers?
jaapv Posted November 25, 2015 Share #10 Posted November 25, 2015 Only when buying from an UK shop, I fear. Nowadays not even then.
