jc_braconi Posted November 21, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Some nice pieces of Leica stuff got stellar prices this morning at Vienna, congratulations for the winners. www.leicashop.com
Advertisement Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 Hi jc_braconi, Take a look here Westlich Auction. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted November 22, 2015 Share #2 Posted November 22, 2015 Luckily... the item I won didn't go stellar... Apart Leica gear, I was struck by the 8KEuros around for the BessaII Apo Lanthar... 6x9 folding cameras is an interesting sector, but didn't think that there are collectors SO passionate and deep-pocketed on them... earleygallery Posted November 22, 2015 Share #3 Posted November 22, 2015 'My' gold plated R3 made top estimate but still a relative bargain for a Leica collectable! You could never really use it though.
willeica Posted November 22, 2015 Share #4 Posted November 22, 2015 I picked up a couple of items that I wanted. Prices were somewhat 'soft' on the mid-level collectibles but the really desirable stuff still went for good prices. Westlicht estimates tend to be rather 'full' and some of the modern sets went for less than the estimated range. My view is that anyone who is buying modern digital cameras, apart from prototypes, is taking something of a gamble investment-wise as the long term value is difficult to determine. The sale of the day was the Nikon 6.2 mm Fisheye which went for €156,000 (including premium) as against an estimated range of €35,000-€45,000. jerzy Posted November 23, 2015 Share #5 Posted November 23, 2015 Luigi, William, have been there in persona? I was, for me this is however just 20 minutes travel. Shall you come to Vienna for one of next auctions let me know, let us have a cup of coffee together.
willeica Posted November 23, 2015 Share #6 Posted November 23, 2015 Thanks Jerzy. I have been thinking of going sometime as it is almost twenty years since I last visited the lovely city of Vienna. The only Westlicht Auction I have actually attended was the one in Wetzlar for the Leica 100th anniversary. It was the only Westlicht Auction, I have participated in, where I did not make a purchase. Perhaps I am a braver bidder behind a keyboard. William
luigi bertolotti Posted November 23, 2015 Share #7 Posted November 23, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks , Jerzy... I wasn't there.... but was to Wien jus twice in my life, and the next time I'll be there I surely will make a trip to Westbhanstrasse... but is difficult that it can be coincident with some of those exciting auctions... I definately want to visit Vienna again ideally when the weather will be a little better!
jc_braconi Posted November 24, 2015 Author Share #10 Posted November 24, 2015 James, thanks, I am sorry but the investment of these kind of travel for only 2 day is out of my mind, certainly I lost the fellowship, but who knows in the near future if things change...
jerzy Posted November 24, 2015 Share #11 Posted November 24, 2015 the shop is full of attractive stuff and the more interesting is the museum. Btw, being in Vienna you might want to visit Mint & Rare in Kaiserstrasse, around a corner of Leica Shop. Two guys, formerly working for Leica Shop opened there their own store this August, They do not have the quantity/quality of Leica Shop yet, however in my opinion prices are lower there for comparable stuff. It is not marketing what I am doing now, I have no connection to them, just thought it might be interesting for you.
Guest ausgeknipst Posted November 24, 2015 Share #12 Posted November 24, 2015 (edited) Yes, Mint and Rare is a top serious shop which is Leica Shop as well, of course. Edited November 24, 2015 by X1neuling

I looked at them on eBay a few months ago, and found this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Leitz-Leica-M39-Hektor-2-5-5cm-Chrome-/141784758285?hash=item210307b80d:g:wbYAAOSwKIpWBYTL Look carefully and a description of "mint" seems as exaggerated as the price, especially when the same lens (no. 178028) was bought (also on eBay from another seller) for about half the price, and a more sober description, earlier this year. Alas, I cannot call up the earlier listing on eBay now. My gut told me to stay away.
earleygallery Posted November 24, 2015 Share #14 Posted November 24, 2015 Having seen some of the prices in Vienna I'm thinking of opening a shop there myself - buy stuff in the UK, take it over there and sell it for double the price! I'm applying to Dragons Den for the next series!

Big shops are the firsts to surf on the web, just to see their feedback over 3000 when they won an auction on Ebay A lot of them are on Ebay also duplicating their own pages
M9reno Posted November 24, 2015 Share #16 Posted November 24, 2015 Big shops are the firsts to surf on the web A lot of them are on Ebay also duplicating their own pages Understandable - but in this case the lens went from being described by its original seller as "ok" to being called "mint" - for double the price. pico Posted November 25, 2015 Share #17 Posted November 25, 2015 (edited) Mint should become a banned word. Where are language police when I want them. I am tempted to auction a "mint mint in mint mint box." Edited November 25, 2015 by pico
earleygallery Posted November 25, 2015 Share #18 Posted November 25, 2015 That sounds rather 'minty' !
Guest Posted November 25, 2015 Share #19 Posted November 25, 2015 Yes, Mint and Rare is a top serious shop which is Leica Shop as well, of course. Never a problem with Joe Geyer and his team (mintandrare). While a small store right across the street from Westlicht is just great. Walked out with a very unusual Linhoff optical viewfinder - for a song.

Is Karl still at LeicaShop?
