Advertisement (gone after registration)

So, some those who were at the head of their dealer's queue now have their SL, but demand seems to be stronger than anticipated, so there are others of us who are still waiting.

 

I've pestered my dealer a couple of times about when he will receive his next shipment and how many bodies it will include. He has been unable to answer my query. He ordered multiple units in advance, but only one was shipped to him.

 

Have any of you had indications of when and how large the second wave of deliveries will be to your dealer?

Availability - about 15 minutes ago - smug smile to self.   Mine came from Ffordes in Scotland. They always seem to treat me very well and get a camera to me within the first few days of UK release

not sure how this works....i ordered with BH, was definitely not among the first ones to get my order in, but BH won't even start shipping before the 21st....i thought the date was the 16th in europe and the 20th in US....but some US dealers already received and sold a first wave? although i consider it strange that shipments consist of one body....that is just weird to me...

...... typical of Leica ...... the pre-launch stockpile will be spread thinly so almost all dealers get one ..... or two if they are lucky...... then it will either be a steady trickle on a weekly basis ..... or if you are unlucky a gap of 4-6 weeks till the next batch gets produced.

from past experience Leica rarely have all their products being produced continuously ...... usually batches of one or two lines, then gaps whilst they produce something else. 

 

The production dates mentioned on the delivery thread cover 12th-26th October ....... ie. 2 weeks production ....... nothing later, despite the fact we are at the end of November ...... so I suspect there will be a hiatus before more appear ....  :huh: ...... hope I'm wrong ....

I asked if they were in a single box and he said no all still in separate boxes but that Leica is requiring them to sell body lens as combo. Didn't sound right but then again I think they know there's more than one buyer behind me willing to buy the set.

I'm #3 at a dealer who only got one in the first shipment, earlier this week.  I didn't hear anything about two lines, one for bodies only and the fast line for kitted pairs, but they claim to see my unit in the next shipment.  If that takes 4 weeks, I will not be happy.

Interesting.  We're supplied from Leica Australia, and our local launch is not till next week.  I have first option on the first camera from one of two dealers nationally - maybe the camera will be available next week.

 

Who is the main dealer in Sydney?  I might drop by and have a look ...

They had four bodies when I walked in yesterday at 10am.

this makes no sense at all....US does not officially have it and there are places with extras sitting around?

Official Sydney launch was Monday night With Leica Australia and mandatory (but very nice!) celebrity photographer in tow. So it makes sense to have some stock available the next day or so.

I received mine from a dealer that only received one body and lens. I sent them a pre-order request within minutes of the announcement.

pretty funny....called around to see what is going on and getting all kinds of answers....leica is selling it as a kit only for now, body only will take 2-3 months, leica is sending more SL lenses then bodies.....nobody has them right now in the US....

doesn't leica US get a certain number which they then distribute to dealers? are they seriously shipping them out one by one?
