Okay, I am very happy with the M9; so happy that I look at two never used Ms and wonder where my head has been for over 40 years. I have trashed more Leicas than I can count, and perversely kept some in boxes.

What, exactly would it take for new customers to be happy? How about a personality transplant?

M2 black enamel, M4 black enamel - neither used, trolling for $ is an unhappy karma. I am looking over the Mississippi River, thinking of making a contribution.

Give me the coordinates so I can swim over to that spot :D

44°03'23.63" N  91°38'25.25" W :)

I'll send you some film to put in those bad boys pico! What'ya waiting for - give them the flogging they deserve!

Funny, but a patron did send me a whole lot of film!

Happy with a M9? The M8/9 are so anti-Leica: slow. Slooow. Sloooie.

If film Ms were like that, Leica would have never survived.

Lets face it: Leica customers are mostly old and mostly shoot around the house. That's where a M9 can shine somewhat.

I'm 30 does having a Leica make me old? Or does being old make me want a Leica? My Dad is 72 and has a Nikon does this make him younger than me? I'm confused.

If you purchased your leica used, you're simply not a Leica customer. If you paid the full price for a new M9, five years ago, I'm sure it wasn't for Pro work.

As a professional, I tried to shoot with digital Leica Ms and I just couldn't come up with the goods. The SL is the first Leica that can compete with the other makers but alas, it's about 10 years late on the market.

Well I bought my m9 used from a Leica store and my lens new so what does that make me? I'm certainly not a pro but there are pro's out their shooting leica rangefinders and five years ago shooting m9s.

...with film-M i've never loose a shot, with digital-M I often forget to power on....frustrating.

Actually, I've lost shots three times on my M3 because I forgot to remove my lens cap.  Talk about feeling stupid.  I remember that phrase, "I left the lens cap on," from my childhood, but I never understood it until recently, when I saw the blank prints from those rolls of film.  Duh.

As it happens, I purchased the M9 (actually six years ago, the week it came out) for pro work.

There are those who can't, and those who can.

I could.

It's kind funny just what that "slow. Slooow. Sloooie" M9 can capture - if the brain behind it is fast.

Thank you for illustrating this more eloquently than just about any of the rest of us could.  Well done, Andrew!
