Pradovit slide projectors

Hello collective wisdom,

After selling off a really nice Rollei Twin slide projector years ago, I decided to get a new projector for all my old (and new!) slides.

I have never owned a projector from the PRADOVIT series, and my eye at the moment is on a couple of PRADOVIT PC projectors available. The last model from Leica, they are quite new and seem to fill the bill nicely.

Any feedback about the Leica series of projectors would be most welcome.

My eye is mostly on reliability and the availability of spare parts, not so much the bells and whistles except autofocus.

Sumolux, don't worry for the replacement bulbs for Pradovit.

As I use CA 2500 and CA 2502, I have in advance some 250W 24V lamps bought some years ago.

Specified for 30 hours, they last much longer, thanks to the economy position of the main switch.

As you would find out in the link below, those lamps come from many manufacturers:

You know, I would  not mind 'an ancient one' - they are such beautiful objects too!

But: all I hear is that one cannot get bulbs for them anymore....And that puts me off.

I've just given my local camera shop a box of old projector/enlarger bulbs - all as new in original packaging - which they will add into their collection for when someone asks. I'm sure many others will do the same. And there were a lot of bulbs produced, plenty to keep projectors going for a good time to come I'd expect. The old projectors (I have a Pradovit colour) are big, heavy and of such high quality build.

Agreed - the Color 2 for example (of which I've had direct experience)  is heavy and built like a tank. It gives the impression that if one threw it down a flight of stairs, there would be a sporting chance that it would still be working at the bottom.

That sounds like an old Engineering Manager at the company where I worked. When an engineer came in to his office with a new field instrument prototype that he said met all the design specs, the manager bounced it across his office floor and told him to test it again.

It was really no good idea to project Kodak paper slides with my father's old Leitz Prado projector.

After a short time one could smell some roasted paperboard and the film layers began to dissolve.
With such old projectors and its very hot becoming bulbs only well glassed slides should be projected and of course if there's a fan inside it should still work as quickly as possible.

Hi Sumolux,

the latest Leica Pradovit PC is quite good and desirable. All the other Pradovits mentioned here can only be used with Universal- and LKM-magazines. The Leica Pradovit PC can be used additionally with CS-magazines and special type roundtrays. There is a rarer version called "Leica Pradovit IR" which has a IR remote control instead of the PC socket of the "Leica Pradovit PC".

Best Regards from Germany,

Moritz
