Filter thread sizes?

I have a few Leitz R mount lenses and would like to use Cokin P system filters.

I'm unsure what the threads are and are adaptor rings available?

The lenses are:

35mm Elmarit f2.8 1964 48mm diameter filter?

90mm Elmarit f2.8 1965 55mm but different pitch thread?

21mm Super-Angulon f4 1970 72mm diameter filter?

I have tried a 55mm adaptor ring on the 90mm but it's not quite the right size, very close.

Any help would be appreciated.

The 21 f/4.0 is 72mm, the 35 f/2.8 Elmarit-R is 44mm and the 90 f/2.8 has a 54mm filter thread. Step-up rings are available to use standard filters.

44mm is the Series VI retaining ring size - thread pitch is different than MM sized filters.

54mm is Series VII retaining ring size - thread ptich is 36 TPI which is different than metric filters.

Metric filters have thread pitches of .5mm, .75mm, and 1mm.

Series retaining rings use SAE thread pitches.

The closest Series size to metric size is Series 8 which is almost 67mm.  Sometimes they jam when used together, sometimes they don't.

I have the APO Telyt 3.4/180mm. That lens needs VII/VIII filters. Filters are held by the ring 14222.

I made the inner diameter of the ring 14222 larger and glued an empty filter 58mm in it.
Now I can use filters of 58mm by screwing them into the empty filter. The sunshade even fits.

One critical point could be vignetting. But as I use a crop camera this is not a problem in my case.

The only filter you really NEED in case of digital cameras is the polafilter!
