Brought my family up in Orange, even though I'm an Adelaidean.

As the years went on the dense Patersons Curse slowly reduced as the biological controls managed to reduce the weed.

On the way to Canberra was some of the best I'd seen.

More of your sensational landscapes please Mark...

cheers  Dave S

I've posted this before in the Forum but it is one of my all-time favourite landscape photographs.

Needless to say I have a 24-inch silver gelatin print framed and hanging in my loungeroom ;-)

Dee's landscapes of the Monaro got me thinking about starting an Australian landscape thread. The light (and landscape) here is so different to that elsewhere. The early European painters who came to Australia particularly commented on the very different light and alien landscape compared with Europe and elsewhere.

So I thought that with the support of other Antipodeans we might get this up and running.

Film or Digital, Colour or B&W.

Feel free to add photographs even if previously posted elsewhere in the Forum.

Mark,

this is a very good idea, to put a thread likte this. I liked all your images very much and enjoyed the special light you mentioned. The character of the landcapes comes out very well. The series with all its contribution is inspiring and so differetn from our European dimensions. Keep going, please.

Canola Crop Shock pano.

Traditionally the Monaro is (and always has been) mixed grazing country for sheep and cattle, cropping is generally thought to be the ruination of good land.

Imagine the shock and in some cases anger, that ensued when the new owner of this paddock put in a Canola crop this spring.

That's our shearing shed in the background.

Dee,

both panos are very interesting and showing a beautiful landscape being under control of agriculture. But one can feel that this needs a constrant and intense effort under that wide sky.

Lovely Dee.

Especially the dramatic stream (can we call them rivers here?) with the big clouds.  The sheep and cattle bathed in light,  add too.

The second with it's huge empty sky reflects the huge open land... like you didn't feel the need to crop the sky.

You and Mark are turning out some sensational stuff.

All the best Dave S

Dave, thank you! The stream is the Bombala river, a well known trout stream of the Monaro. There was a lovely sea breeze with mist blowing in from the South Coast,

which caught the low winter sun and backlit the cattle. These images are always so much more beautiful in actuality than in any photograph!
