LucisPictor Posted October 13, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 13, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Good afternoon, gentlemen. I'll be in England for a couple of days at the end of October and will spend one day in (central) London. Is there perhaps a camera store that you would recommend and that sells used Leica gear, lenses mainly? I have heard some good things about "Aperture" and "R.G. Lewis". Would you send a friend there?Any help is appreciated. Thanks! Carsten

Ted Lemon Posted October 13, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 13, 2015 I have never bought of those two so cannot comment - but my dealer is RedDot - http://www.reddotcameras.co.uk - who I can recommend. Nearest tube stops are Old Street and Barbican.

earleygallery Posted October 13, 2015 Share #4 Posted October 13, 2015 Red Dot, Aperture, Richard Caplan, The Classic Camera, London Camera Exchange - all have websites so you can do some research before visiting to see if there's anything of interest. There is also Croydon Photo Centre, a 20 minute train ride out of London - worth calling them if you're after something specific as they don't update their website very often. Bill Livingston Posted October 13, 2015 Share #5 Posted October 13, 2015 (edited) I would second Red Dot Cameras... I bought a used Summilux 50 1.4 ASPH, 6 bit coded there a little while ago. Boxed and in immaculate condition - and at an excellent price too. Edited October 13, 2015 by Bill Livingston
LocalHero1953 Posted October 14, 2015 Share #6 Posted October 14, 2015 +1 for Red Dot for the hard core. Also London Camera Exchange in the Strand - I've bought s/h Leica and Leica-fit stuff there. Faster moving stock. And MW Classic: mostly sell a massive stock online, but i believe they have a physical outlet which I've never visited (but I've bought from them). Very knowledgeable. @McLeica Posted October 14, 2015 Share #7 Posted October 14, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Red Dot as well. No mucking about, good prices.
Dan Bachmann Posted October 14, 2015 Share #8 Posted October 14, 2015 Mr. Cad in Pimlico (near Victoria station) has some older M film cameras now and then. Red Dot has the best selecton of 2nd hand Leica lenses from my experience. I've purchased Leica lenses and a Voigtlander there. The Camera Cafe inside Aperture makes it fun for a snack. Note there are two Aperture locations and only one has Leica.

farnz Posted October 26, 2015 Share #13 Posted October 26, 2015 Hi Carsten, I wouldn't bother going to Ni*ol@s in Camden; he advertises stock on line but when you visit the shop the items' descriptions are very overinflated, some don't work, and there's little chance of recompense. Often he'll tell you that he has to get an item you enquire about from his warehouse and to return tomorrow which really means that he hasn't got it and is stalling to allow him some time to find it elsewhere at retail and charge above that. Please note that Red Dot Cameras opens on only the first and third Saturday of the month (and during the week of course). If you fancy meeting up while you're in London let us know when and we may be able to get a few forum members along for a chat/coffee/beer/bite to eat/whatever if you'd like. Pete. LucisPictor Posted November 1, 2015 Author Share #14 Posted November 1, 2015 Oh sorry, Pete!I didn't see your posting before we left. Pity! Would have loved to see you again. But then, I was there with my family. My kids were in London for the first time. And that is also why I did not have the time to check out camera stores, really, and neither the money left. Anyway, my kids loved it so much - we showed them Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, Camden Town (their favourite place now!), St.Paul's, "Big Ben", Westminster Abbey and of course Hamley's. There is, however, so much more to see. So we decided to go there again - if possible - in the next autumn break. Then a little longer. This year, we travelled around the South East as well: Leeds Castle, Tunbridge Wells (where we stayed during our time there) and Hastings.
