colint544 Posted November 13, 2015 Share #21 Posted November 13, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) My only experience of the rewind knob (as opposed to the more modern crank) is on my 1966 M2. I use that camera a lot, with various types of film stock. The clutch always does its job. I thought that was the whole beauty of the knob rewind - a bit slower, but more robust and dependable? 250swb Posted November 13, 2015 Share #22 Posted November 13, 2015 (edited) I thought that was the whole beauty of the knob rewind - a bit slower, but more robust and dependable? Well yes and no. The traditional rewind knob does go out of adjustment quickly in the scheme of things, but that said most photographers can accommodate the inconvenience if nothing else needs servicing on the camera for twenty or thirty years. But the 'modern' rewind crank is fragile but fast, I have needed to replace three (an easy job) over the course of the years on M6 etc. just by them taking a slight knock. Keith (M) Posted November 24, 2015 Share #23 Posted November 24, 2015 Rewound films in my MP (Portra 400) and IIIg (Acros 100) this afternoon - both rewind knobs behaved perfectly with no hint of slipping/spinning/whatever.
sblitz Posted November 24, 2015 Share #24 Posted November 24, 2015 Reason they went with MP style rewind knob on the M-A is because it more reliable, sturdier, etc.
Fotoklaus Posted November 25, 2015 Share #25 Posted November 25, 2015 Reason they went with MP style rewind knob on the M-A is because it more reliable, sturdier, etc. Thousands of broken M4/ M6 rewind knobs out there... And an additional rewind lever for MP- rewind-knob to buy extra
