Bonjour ! Good Morning!

I am really like this forum and I study a lot from the members.

Thank you very much!

my question is.

I am waiting for new MM 246 and looking for Noctilux 0,9. To have it. I really fastineiting how noctilux works with light. I am worry about callibration beetween MM 246 and Nochtilux.

can I do it by my self or it will be ok and MM and Noctilux will be as lovers imediatly? Or I have to work with specialists.

I am multimedia artist and spend a 35 years with different cameras and other devises.

but I am still bad in texnical side :)

I live in Geneva, I was in the leica store in Geneva but they have no idea, I am not sure here is some leica expert who can help me with this question.

thank you

There is no telling if the Noctilux will need calibration with your camera or not but if it does you should send it in for calibration, possibly it will be sent to Germany for calibration unless there is some Leica specialist in Switzerland but your dealer should now this.

I had to send my in because it front-focused on my M9 but once it was calibrated it also worked perfectly on the MM 246 I got later.

1. The current production M240 and M246 are the most accurately adjusted cameras to date.

2. The Noctilux 0.95 has always been a specialist assembly lens delegated to Leica's most capable and experienced staff ..... and historically has been one of their most accurately calibrated lenses.

You theoretically have a combination that will have the least chance of problems.

Note that there MAY be unavoidable issues at 1m wide open at 0.95 ....... there is significant focus shift close up and adjustments are a compromise to ensure focus is fine throughout the maximum of the usable range.

Check focus in a range of normal circumstances and if it seems fine don't worry.

Carrying out pernickety tests may reveal issues that will not be a problem in real-world use ...... and just result in a frustrating to and fro-ing to Wetzlar with you never being 100% satisfied.

Leica Switzerland in Nidau have successfully coded and adjusted some lenses for me as well as my M (Typ 240); however, there was no Noctilux among those lenses. I would presume that someone in Nidau should be able to speak French; on the other hand, you could just send them a mail to info at leica-camera.ch

My M246 is out with my APO50 Summicron and my 50 Noctilux 0.95 whereas my M240 is spot on with both.

I got my Noctilux used and was amazed to find I could focus it perfectly on the M240.

I will send my M246 off to Germany shortly.

I just received my M246 two weeks ago and quickly discovered the rangefinder was out of calibration. I own both a 50mm Summilux and a 0.95 Noctilux and saw a difference in the way both lenses focused.  Fortunately my work is very close to Leica's service location in NJ.  I took the camera and both lenses there.  They adjusted the rangefinder and checked out both lenses immediately.  They kept the Noctilux because it was back focusing and needs a shim to bring it to spec.  It will be another 4 weeks before its ready which is fine with me.  I was a bit surprised with these issues but am happy with Leica's response to addressing these problems.

Of the 4 digital M-bodies I have used, one was severely off, one was off, one was ok-ish and the fourth was spot on upon purchase (three new, one second-hand). After a visit at Wetzlar this summer, the two bodies I now use are perfectly calibrated, one of which is the very special M246. I also shipped several lenses to Wetzlar for calibration to the digital requirements. It's a real pleasure to use a well-calibrated system - or instrument - so adjustments are highly recommended for those having bodies or lenses that are off!

My latest experiences with adjustment/repair at Wetzlar are that the turn over is rather quick, two weeks typically. Add some time for shipping and paper work in both ends (customs clearance, etc.), and we talk about 1 month altogether. Not bad at all - at least acceptable for the non-professional photographers amongst us. The prof's have express services, so faster turn over there, I assume.
