Herr Barnack Posted October 3, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 3, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone have a Zero Halliburton case for their Leica kit? I have always admired these cases and am curious as to how owners of these cases like them. This one is particularly interesting - http://zerohalliburton.com/collections/camera-cases/medium-aluminum-camera-case/
Advertisement Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Hi Herr Barnack, Take a look here Zero Halliburton - yea or nay?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
fotoism Posted October 3, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 3, 2015 I have this case and love it very much. The silver finish looks very slick but you do have to be careful to avoid scratches. My other favorite cases are the Pelicans. They are more rugged and can take a bit more abuse without being too visible.
Herr Barnack Posted October 4, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted October 4, 2015 The Z/H cases are very nice, but as you observe they are susceptible to scratches, and dents too if dropped. Not so with Pelicans and these http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/863875-REG/HPRC_HPRC2550WFRED_2550_Wheeled_Hard_Case.html
pico Posted October 4, 2015 Share #4 Posted October 4, 2015 I do not think the Zeros are waterproof. Do they have an atmospheric release valve?
pgk Posted October 4, 2015 Share #5 Posted October 4, 2015 I do not think the Zeros are waterproof. Do they have an atmospheric release valve? Lovely cases; I have a couple. They have a 'seal' (rubber gasket/'O' ring) but its not as tight as those on a Pelicase and there is no pressure equalising valve so I'd say that they are water resistant rather than waterproof. Mine are not used for cameras......
LocalHero1953 Posted October 4, 2015 Share #6 Posted October 4, 2015 I'd rather have the Lenny Kravitz version.
Herr Barnack Posted October 4, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted October 4, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) There is no mention on the Z/H website of the camera cases being waterproof. If they were waterproof, I would think they would make mention of that fact. Edited October 4, 2015 by Carlos Danger
TomB_tx Posted October 5, 2015 Share #8 Posted October 5, 2015 I've used the Z/H cases a lot for industrial test equipment I designed to be permanently mounted in it. For that they were very good. I used one decades ago for a 2 -body SLR kit. Too clumsy for me for that use. I changed to canvas bags.
fotoism Posted October 5, 2015 Share #9 Posted October 5, 2015 I have a smaller one (12") in black with some sort of texture on the surface. Those are a bit more scratch resistant (or rather, less noticeable). Looks like the black ones nowadays are all smooth.
250swb Posted October 5, 2015 Share #10 Posted October 5, 2015 Looks like something a mobile nail technician might use, Pelican cases are the serious business. Steve
tobey bilek Posted October 10, 2015 Share #11 Posted October 10, 2015 Do not store gear in them if they have the foam inserts. You will be sorry. Scratches are good. Decades ago, pros used to drag them behind the car to create instant patina. They appear less desirable that way. Also lots of travel stickers. pico Posted October 10, 2015 Share #12 Posted October 10, 2015 What Toby may have been referring to is how very much of the foam padding degenerates into a tar-like substance over a couple decades.
johnnyj Posted October 12, 2015 Share #13 Posted October 12, 2015 We used to use Halliburton but he some bad airline experience with the aluminum actually being pierced. The cases are not quite as indestruable and waterproof as the Pelican cases. We've moved to the Pelican cases and are more confident in their survival. pierovitch Posted October 21, 2015 Share #15 Posted October 21, 2015 got a second hand gold one for the laptop and refitted it with high density foam. Also supposed to be useful when brown paper bags don't hold enough currency.
adespen Posted October 21, 2015 Share #16 Posted October 21, 2015 I use mine when I travel and need cameras, computers and audio etc. each item has their own case and I also use a Crumpler backpack. It can be a bit conspicuous but can be safely chained in a hotel room. I also have shoulder bags for everyday carry which always has my M-E and another camera. hepcat Posted October 21, 2015 Share #17 Posted October 21, 2015 (edited) Here's mine. It's a 22" wheeled case. I use it mostly for storage... I typically carry my gear in a Domke F2 or F6 (depending on what I'm carrying) when i'm working. The gear has changed a little since this cell phone snapshot, but you get the idea. The gray foam used in Pelican and Halliburton cases are inert and don't outgas like common upholstery foam. I've stored my Hasselblad and Leica gear in the gray foam Halliburton cases and now Pelican) use since about 1980 with no ill effects.

I've stored my Hasselblad and Leica gear in the gray foam Halliburton cases and now Pelican) use since about 1980 with no ill effects. Thanks for that bit of information - I would have thought it unlikely in the extreme that either ZH, Pelican or HPRC would use foam for inserts that could outgas and damage camera gear or computers. Given the cost of the ZH cases, these certainly make a strong case (no pun intended) for themselves http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/748613-REG/HPRC_HPRC2550WFORAN_2550WF_Hard_Case_with.html
