Captmcl1 Posted October 2, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 2, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently bought the above coded lens brand new and when attached it brings up the 50 mm frameline. My tri-Elmar brings up the 35mm frameline. Any ideas?
Advertisement Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Hi Captmcl1, Take a look here Wrong frameline with 35 mm 2.4 Summarit. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted October 2, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2015 The frames are activated by one of the lugs on the lens bayonet. Are you sure you have mounted the lens correctly i.e. until the latch engages and locks the lens? If that's not the problem it will be a tiny difference in the tolerances between the lens and your camera and it's probably easiest to ask the dealer to swap it for another lens to try. TomB_tx Posted October 4, 2015 Share #3 Posted October 4, 2015 The 35 & 50 Summarits share most body components except for the mounting flange. I can imagine the factory might mix-up and let one slip out with perfectly adjusted focus on the wrong flange...
250swb Posted October 5, 2015 Share #4 Posted October 5, 2015 I'm pretty sure this will be as James suggests, a case of over rotating the lens when mounting it on the camera. If you keep your finger on the lens release button while mounting your 35mm and go past the click stop the first anomalous frameline to come up is the 50mm. It is often done by people thinking they are being careful, when in reality they need to keep their finger off the lens release button and allow it to click into place naturally. Captmcl1 Posted October 10, 2015 Author Share #5 Posted October 10, 2015 So I guess it's off to Leica repair. Thankfully I live 30 minutes away from the Allendale Nj facility. Mounting the 35mm, the 35 frameline is in view until that final click that locks it in place then the 50mm frameline pops up. And no I don't hold the button down while mounting the lens. I have had M6 and M7s over the years and never this problem. Like I say my 28-35-50 Tri-Elmar brings up all the correct framelines. Quite a shame to have a brand new lens being defective. Captmcl1 Posted October 21, 2015 Author Share #7 Posted October 21, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) So much for Leica quality control. I finally got around to bringing my 2.4 Summarit 35 mm to Leica in Allendale and met with a technician. Yes they assembled it with a 50mm flange. I pick up the lens in 10 days. Captmcl1 Posted October 23, 2015 Author Share #8 Posted October 23, 2015 To give credit where credit is due, Leica North America installed the correct flange on the lens and had it back to me in three days and working fine.
