Hi.  I picked up a black/nickel Leica I that was converted to a Model II.  The serial number is in the 18000 range which dates its birth to 1929.  Is anyone aware of Leica records that would indicate when a conversion was performed?  The lens flange includes the "0" symbol and so does the nickel 5 cm Elmar that came with it.  The original serial number is engraved on the top of the rangefinder housing.

Few years ago i asked the same question to Leica and received reply that such records do not exist. However, depending how the conversion has been done, which parts have been used it might be possible to give some estimation. Would you post some pictures?

Camera is from approx 1929. I can see traces of two conversions/modifications.

the first one between 1931 and 1934, this one included standartisation. Top plate is of the type used after 1937, I assume, but no guarantee that the conversion to II was done after 1937 and before 1940.

this is based on assumption that lens belonged to camera from the beginning. More details could be possibly found after looking inside and dismantling.
