John Z. Goriup Posted September 22, 2015 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Drove up to wine country last weekend for some tasting, but on the way home encountered a huge traffic jam due to an accident on the main road, so got off and explored some backroads that took us past a small private airfield on Hwy. 121 near Sonoma, where we spotted these two magnificent old warbirds being moved out of the blazing heat of the sun into their respective hangars with the original 1942 Jeep, shown under the wing of the Curtis P-40. By coincidence I had that wonderful 21mm Super-Elmar f3.4 on the M-P because it was really tight quarters in the small hangar spaces these planes occupied, with no room to back up for overall shots to get the entire plane into the shot otherwise. Everey time I use that lens I find new reasons to sing its praises. Thanks for looking JZG Welcome, dear visitor! wda Posted September 22, 2015 Share #2 Posted September 22, 2015 They look in very fine condition and thanks for sharing your story. There is moral therein. Don't be afraid to leave the highway from time to time. You often find hidden gems of landscape or human interest.
