First test roll from my M6

pinchers of peril

Pinchers: I agree with other comments. I actually think these are good images, especially for a first roll! Well done.

It may take you a while to move away from the sharpness-centered mindset of digital images. That will entail a pretty major change in mindset and preference set. When I look at film images, I don’t even ponder sharpness and detail. My mind is captivated by other things (e.g., the random and unexpected magic that light can create on film). In terms of your first two images, the image of the young girl isn’t as sharp as digital, but it’s nice. It is detailed (for film), has a good rendering, and has much more pop IMHO than any digital images. I like the light in the second image though I think you must have missed the focus a bit. The hand seems more in focus than the eyes, it seems.

As others have said, image processing at CVS will never be great. If you have a professional developing service near where you live, I would recommend using it for color and B&W. If not, you could mail your film off for processing and scanning. (I have used the Darkroom before and was happy with their services.)

I don't have a film camera currently--but miss the experience and magic of film. Keep it up—and please let us know how it goes!

Wow these are great. I'm surprised you were able to get that shot with the "Salsa" sign. That looks like pretty low light for a 400 speed film especially if you are over exposing. Do you just have crazy steady hands?.. ha ha

Are you self developing or using a lab? I don't have any labs close by and I haven't started self developing yet so I'm always having to mail my stuff out. I've used FIND lab and also The Darkroom.

Any photos to share from the past couple of months? I started a show for FOX and had barely any time at all to shoot. Getting some rolls developed this week though and will post the results when I get them. Would love to see and hear how your journey has been. Edited by Kupo43

Just picked up quite minty condition M6 and started shooting my first roll.

Coming from a mainly digital background, I picked up a polaroid sx-70 and surprisingly when I used this for shoots, the pictures become my favourite output. First roll is an Agfa from poundland and I'm just shooting anything and everything, plan on sticking a portra in for my next photoshoot

These were all shot with Kodak Tmax 400 rated at ISO 200 and processed like normal.

Been a while since I've gotten a chance to take the M6 out, but got a roll of Portra back from the lab tonight.  It's fun switching between color and black and white.  This was from my trip to Guatemala.

I really like Portra 400.

Like previous posters have said, what you get from it depends who scans the negs using what, which prompted me to scan my own.

Got back my first roll of Kodak Ektar 100.  Pretty punchy film stock.
