johnloumiles Posted August 31, 2015 Share #1 Posted August 31, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know Leica states only CFE and CFI (no leaf shutter) lenses can be used on S via the V adapter but I was curious about using C or CF lenses. Obviously I'm not talking about using the leaf shutter itself but is it possible to lock the aperture down on those lenses? It seems like you can shoot wide open easy enough, maybe even tape the dof preview switch in the down position but those are less then ideal work arounds. I've never handled those lenses but I know Mamiya lenses from the RB and RZ won't lock aperture, only show you dof preview via slider at the bottom of the lens. There was an earlier post a couple years back that talks about Hassy lenses in general and someone posted a photo of their setup and 3 of the lenses were CF with leaf shutter so that got me wondering. Thanks in advance.

albireo_double Posted August 31, 2015 Share #2 Posted August 31, 2015 (edited) The CF, CFE and CFi lenses do have a leaf shutter. The FE lenses don't. I have used both CFE/CFi and FE lenses on the S, via the adapter. With the CFE/CFI lenses, you switch the shutter in the F position, basically leaving it open. As for aperture, it stays where you set it (i.e. no auto-aperture), so you may wish to focus with the lens fully open and then stop it down manually. I think the only Hasselblad lenses you can't use on the S via adapter are the C lenses which do not offer to "bypass" the leaf shutter, i.e. stay open. The letter "F" in the lens description means that you can use the lens on cameras with a focal plane shutter (they were meant to be used also on the Hassy F cameras, e.g. my favourite, the 203FE). So, if the lens has an F in its name, you can use it with the Leica S, via adapter. Edited August 31, 2015 by albireo_double
