As I sit here looking at the herd, I keep thinking about how nice the black chrome 35mm asph with red numbers would look on my black chrome M-A.  I have the standard issue of that lens, and it really is just cosmetics, but $3250 + taxes for red numbering, o.k. plus matte chrome finish, just makes me cringe.  Plus, on the other hand, it could be my 50th birthday present to myself.  Trying to talk some sense into myself.

Anyone own one yet and so thrilled they have to brag?

Once, on the tube somewhere under London, I was approached by an Indian man who questioned me about my camera. Just a black MP with a bog standard 35 'cron ASPH, I mentioned I had bought it as a birthday present to myself. His face went blank and he asked 'You bought a birthday present for yourself?', so I replied 'Don't worry, I OK'ed it with my wife first'. I thought he might slap me for being so weak, but the several ladies standing next to us looked very bemused. The gals know where the power is; the rest is just posturing by the children.

My wife was an excellent photographer. She and I "agreed" on our purchases of Leica M bodies and lenses. I learned, very quickly, that a husband's most useful two words in the English dictionary were: "Yes, Dear."

I am blessed. My wife never questions my purchases. She does not monitor my spending. But then, while she does work, it's all my money for everything in the household and I don't look at her purchases. She's got to have more shoes than God.

I guess that this turns you into the wife and turns her into the husband.

Nonsense.

Leica lenses are made out of metal. This is more expensive.

The rangefinder has to follow the lens in a mechanical way. This is an extra effort, that costs.

It is said, that Leica are produced following very narrow tolerances. I believe this.

Leica has long term facilities for repairing. I don´t know how these are with canikonsony products.

My radio/television shop says, that cheap radiosets of today cannot be repaired after 3 or 4 years (the economical lifetime).

They are aesthetically matched. Be aware that they are heavier than the regular black versions.

(Sorry - should have cleaned up the camera for these)

If it will make  you happy and you can still find both, go for them.  Not certain any are still available at MSRP.  The 50s on E Bay seem to have moved to upwards of $5,000.00 and the 35s upwards of $3,500.00.
