I know Leica Rumors is far from accurate all the time, but this certainly seems to reek of the Full Frame T-mount dream that we've all had for some time - perhaps with the Q's processor and AF speed?

I sure hope so. The T is a camera that I simply love, but having Full Frame and slightly faster performance as an option would be stellar.

Aieeeeeee!

I happen to believe it will be something more like the T and less like the Q or an M.  It has obviously been in the works for awhile, never mind sales of the T influencing their direction.  I love the T!  This will be interesting.  If it's slimmer than the M, I am a definite buyer.  But mark my words, be patient with firmware updates!  Hopefully they get it more right this time out of the gate!

I hope it sells better than the current T...

Will T lenses cover a "full frame"? <- an increasingly meaningless term these days given that cameras such as the T have only ever had sensors of the size they have. Full frame only has meaning when referring to camera systems which have grown out of film camera systems and therefore needed some backward compatibility with legacy lenses.

What they really mean is a T with a bigger sensor.

I'm not so sure the T will continue in its present form. The system will go on, most probably, but I think the bodies will grow more X-like. After all, what kind of USP is hand-polishing for 45 minutes when a machine can do it in five?

Nor do I expect the T to grow in sensor size. It would alienate the owners of the present lenses.

I'd have thought the equivalent of a Q with removable lenses would be the next logical step for Leica. If the T lenses are capable of being used on a FFS so much the better. Full frame capability may have been part of the T 'roadmap', and so built into the system.

Maybe coincedence, but doesn't it strike anyone that just maybe the delay in more T lenses has something to do with the new camera yet to be announced?  I speculate, the new camera will come out along with all the missing T lenses.  I don't think it's a new T.  Is going to be something totally new.  Not a new M either.  The one thing Leica may have done to set itself apart from the Sonys and Canons and ...... It the T interface.  If it's like the Q, think will be pretty boring.  Just hope has a built in EVF but I don't mind the periscope.

Now, the question I have, will the existing T lenses fill full frame??  I don't know the dynamics of this.  But since they are calling a 23mm lens that only shoots around 35mm on the T, my guess it would shoot 23mm FF. ????

The T lens mount is larger than at least a few other FF camera mounts, so the popular consensus is that is designed to be more than large enough to accommodate a FF sensor. As a Full Frame sensor has no crop factor, you're correct that the 23mm would indeed be 23mm on a FF, unlike the 35mm it is on the APS-C Typ 701 sensor.

This would make me wonder if one of the first offerings for a FF T-mount system would be a 35mm with AF.

Anyway, can't wait to find out more. I love the image compression and color reproduction, as well as low light capability of FF sensors.

What delay? If I compare the lenses available to the roadmap, Leica is on schedule so far.

That’s a non sequitur. The lens is a 23 mm lens – 23 mm is its focal length. The sensor size has nothing to do with this and there is nothing to suggest it was designed for a FF rather than an APS-C sensor.

Which roadmap?

I can remember asking for a roadmap not so long ago on this forum and you were the first to respond, saying that Leica doesn't do roadmaps. They would announce the lenses when Leica would be absolutely sure that they are ready for it.

Which I can understand. But the time they need for producing T-primes for an APS-C sensor is ticking. It would be disappointing, to say the least,  if they would produce primes for a new FF- system camera with a T-mount and leave the T-users waiting!

Leica’s roadmap.

Leica doesn’t publish roadmaps. That doesn’t imply there is no roadmap – of course there is. How else would I know that T lens development appears to be on schedule?

Well, I believe you that they are on schedule, you are in the know after all.

in that case it is disappointing that they keep us waiting!

I dont think the current T lenses will work on a FF-sized sensor, it also doesnt make much sense because the range of the focal length of the zooms would not make much sense.

I could imagine however that Leica will use the same T-mount for a full-frame system and announce new lenses.

Like Nikon FF and dx for example.

The advantage would be that in the future one could use the FF-T-mount lenses on both the smaller sensor T and on the new body.

And maybe with the same adapter one could use Leica M lenses on either body/system.

It would be nice to have a longer roadmap of products from Leica, and not getting infos and products "slice by slice."

I am curious which user interface the new camera will have. I am someone who usually prefers more analog styled user interfaces like the M/ Nikon df and X, but I now get along so good with the T user interface that I believe the T user interface is not just something for the smartphone-generation-kids but something which really makes sense and works. However it is new for a camera and therefore there is a lot of skeptics about it.

Seeing how good the images come out of the T I am not sure any more if I would be willing to spend the money and to carry the size of a FF version of the T/Q.

(I do however need to add that the T is an adition to my S which I use for subjects where I want big big resolution)

Of course, by "delay" I am referring to the small subset of T lenses released thus far which strikes most as odd and of course I don't know what is Leica's schedule is.  Duh.

As far as focal length, your answer doesn't explain how the T 23mm will work of a FF camera.  Obviously on the T it is the equivalent of a 35mm lens as far as what the sensor receives.  The T is not a full frame camera, in case you didn't know.  So, if you know everything, how will the T 23mm work or not on a full frame camera?

I agree it would be nice, but imagine the radical change it would be to existing T owners - a very different camera, with the need to buy new lenses. Not likely to happen. If it were, since I never got along with the T, I'd be first in line.

Leica Camera is a relatively small manufacturer and they can only develop so many new lenses each year. Now you might say that if that is so then maybe they should not have introduced yet another line with the Q (and a new FF system if the rumours should be true for once). But there you are. At least Leica never planned for a higher frequency of new T lens releases; they knew it would take some time to complete the system.

It is a lens designed for an APS-C camera; Leica never claimed otherwise. Why some people think it would work (to Leica’s standards) outside its specification is beyond me.

An FF camera needs lenses designed for a FF sensor so a new FF camera would require new lenses. APS-C lenses could be used in cropping-mode, similar to what Nikon has implemented in their FX cameras.

Maybe Leica will announce the much needed 'T' AF macro optic if a FF 'T' is announced?

My plan to buy a T zoom lens (I only have the 23mm 'T' lens plus the M adaptor) ) is now on hold - pending any 'imminent'? Leica announcement about 'soon to be available?' additional 'T' lenses :)

If more 'T' lenses are on the way they're not before time.

Apart from the very poor / incomplete (and that's being polite) 'T-app' (no DNG files possible :(  ), the 'T' camera for me is one of the most satisfying, ergonomic and brilliantly designed cameras I've used.

The question you seem to be asking is really: what is the size of the circle of illumination of the current T lenses when placed at the flange focal distance between the camera and the lens.

I searched for this distance but was unable to find the number for the flange focal distance for the T-mount. With this number you can do a simple test and shine a light through the lens and see how big the illuminated circle is when the lens is held at that length from a plane.

However, if you look carefully at the MTF graphs for the lenses you see the classic drop near the edges. This suggests to me that these are not lenses that are designed for 35mm sensors because when you have a full frame lens on a crop sensor camera you are only using the center of the illuminated circle. Therefore it will be using the best part of the lens and you will have very little vignetting and it will be very sharp. The T lenses don't look like they are only using the best part of the illuminated circle or they would look better.
